Hey Ronny.

Have a look at the small fin between the tail and the dorsil. It has a black tip. The dusky is also a lot thinner in body size.

Sorry Fawlty

Missed that one fin.  If only the interdorsal fin was marked, then it is a Blackspot Shark. Here is some info. on the species.

A small, slender shark with a long, rounded snout, large, oval eyes, and oblique-cusped teeth; 2nd dorsal fin with conspicuous black tip covering one-half or more of the fin, other fins plain (Ref. 5578). Grayish or grey-brown above, white below; black spot on the second dorsal fin (Ref. 9997).

Found on the continental and insular shelves, from the surf line and intertidal region to deeper water (Ref. 244). Feeds on small bony fishes (including sea horses), prawns, and squid (Ref. 9997). Viviparous (Ref. 50449). Often caught by shore anglers (Ref. 5485). Utilized as a food fish (Ref. 244).

Hey Fawlty

Here is an illustration of the Blackspot Shark. Also what is interesting is that when these species move into an area they chase away all other species. No other fish or shark will take your bait.

Hey Ronny.

Thats the shark mate. Thanks for your info on it. From what i have heard, this shark does not get much bigger than this as well. Your info about the other fish being chased when they are around is interesting from the point of view that it must be quite the aggressive little sod too.

Thanks again

Fawlty

From what I can see from the picture that is a juvenile Dusky Shark or as it is otherwise known as Ridgeback Grey Shark. The Black Spot Shark has a much bigger black spot on the second dorsal fin.

Common Sea fishes from South Africa is verry valuable book as it will make it easy to identify fish.

Attached is a picture of the Dusky Shark
