Hi all,

PE is flanked by two very very productive fishing grounds. Sundays River to the East and Gamtoos to the West. Both are great for fishing off the beach. But where do my fellow PE fisherman fish closer to home? I want to fish before or after work during the week so going to Sundays or Gamtoos isn't really practical.

My biggest concern with lure fishing around the PE coast is finding a spot where you can safely access the open ocean. Everything West of Cape Recief either has 10 foot waves coming towards you or where its sheltered it has rocks in front of you which you can't cast over. Or I find a good spot and there are rocks five metres in front of you and then open water so your guaranteed to loose your lure or snap your braid. I'm sure traditional rock and surf anglers with bait would be happy to fish here where you can cast and then move back into safety while you wait for a bite but this is obviously not suitable to do when spinning.

Maybe I'm not identifying spots and structure correctly, I don't know, but any pointers or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

The hard core lure chaps fish beachview, maitlands. From the rocks and throw onto the sandbanks.

There are a few permanent sandbanks at receife that are also fished.

I have even seen a sandbanks build up around the summerstrand pipes and prominent rocks that also produce fish on lure.

Thanks for the tips Splasher. I will do a recce around the PE coast next weekend and look at the spots you mentioned. I wonder if areas like The Willows caravn park have any good spots. Might be worth getting a day pass to see what's there.

Hiya Dave,

For a quick session you can try the section of flat rocks right in front of pine lodge.

Park inside the resort and go under the island pub onto the boardwalk down to the beach. On the beach turn left until you find the little river which comes out onto the beach.

The area is good for a few shad and Garrick in the right conditions...like today after all the east winds we have just had.

Went today for a short session. Got a nice sized rod cod. Originally thought I had gotten stuck on some rocks as the fish took zero line. It must have gone straight under a rod and just held tight.

Trophy how far out do you wade when you fish this area? I was told today to get in much closer to shore than I was as there are apparently very large Zambezi's that patrol this area... :shark

if catch these guys please release.
Well done boet! Ja I heard of a 20kg mamma being kept that came out this week. Please release these fish folks, everyone should be able to experience those bus Concorde's in the future if we continue to look after them. It IS very rewarding to see the your average size of fish go up year on year as the stocks mature. Now if those stocks can just all get to bus size and have one big spawn event, then we will really be in business.

Double slim.
Sorry no pics.
Was still dark when they were caught.
Caught another this morning and released.

Some chaps fishing with live bait also caught but not released!

It seems only art lure fisherman release fish!

Ja, I've seen the shark fishermen with livies release nice size leeries where I fish..I don't think it's them leaving the cable ties and rotting baitsharks around LOL. Ja you can't generalize but at least you are setting a good example, that is what counts. May you be rewarded with more :)
