Hi All,

Ive just signed up on the forum, and I am originally from Zim. I recently re-kindled my bass fishing hobby and on the market for some decent Left handed bait casters, I am situated in Kloof/Pinetown, and the fishing shops i have been to so far are seriously overpriced or just don't stock any left handed bait casters.

I am shocked to see how many people just haven't tried going lefty especially if your strong arm is your right hand?

Could anyone point me in the right direction or as a bonus, does anyone have any left handed reels that are fairly decent and they want to sell them?

I use left handed Baitcasters (Hehe I am also a Zimbo) I use chronarch lefties they cost a packet but worth every cent.

Maybe the Zimbo's need to educate the Saffy's.

i could not find left hand baitcasters here, so have brought in 2 daiwa zillions and 2 fuego while they were on super duper low special price from tackle warehouse. com.  including shipping and vat ended up at about R1400 each. bargain of the century for me.  basspro and cabelas are both having pre season specials at the moment.  it's easier to buy rods here mainly because you can see/feel/bend at the shop.

You mean you can't just spool a baitcaster left handed? That sucks

I don't own a baitcaster yet, as you can deduce.... I only fish left handed, and I am a right handed person. I once saw someone else do it and asked why.... He also pointed out that your right hand is your stronger hand and that it makes sense, so I changed.

It took a little getting used to but since then I noticed that during casting people that fish right handed with their coffee grinders swop hands every time, where I don't, which means I save time, and therefore get more casts in.

Went to just about every fishing shop in Durban this weekend... wasn't successful at all. Went online to bassproshop.com and found 2 awesome Abu's, shipped here, they cost US$122.95 for both!
so eta about 10days, cant wait... then i will go to the tackle shops and find the matching rods for them...

Please PM the details of where you got it and how you got it shipped here please, i am interested in doing the same.

My spinning reels are all left handed already, but obviously not my baitcasters, was wondering whether people make the left handed.. interesting.

just a quick edit:

both reels together were $109.98, shipping costs on top of that was $49.49
so in total, the total cost was $159.47

I expect the Duty and Tax costs to be about R500. thats if i'm lucky... will let you all know how it goes.

tacklewarehouse.com or cabelas.com or basspro are all good.
sign up for a Paypal account which is linked to your credit card. it's the best way because the shops overseas will not take orders exceeding USD100 without faxed copies of id, drivers, proof of address etc directly from you RSA credit card. Orders are delivered via Fed-ex or similar and take about 5-8 working days to arrive. We are 10 hrs ahead of california time. Courier charges are about USD50 per order.

Ok, so today I am a very happy person!

My reels just arrived from Bass Pro Shops!

in total, with Shipping, they came to $159, Fedex sorted out the duty, they just phoned me the day they left the states, and told me what my duty would be, i just did an EFT,

so all in all, the TWO Abu's i ordered came to just over R1400 with shipping.

the more decent reels i got quotes on from well known fishing shops here were about R2500!.... for ONE!!

so needless to say, i'm very happy!
