I fished allot of bass in the past but honestly have to admit that rdw was and is the worst place i ever fished!!

* Staring out of the window at the sh1tty weather and thinking of jumping of a building to rid myself of depression*

Just my point of view ey......i won't ever go back there, i will rather drive an extra 110km to my favourite spot.

Let me tell you something else, the rate by which people are catching and removing the bass from rdw it will soon be without any bass at all.

In less than 2 years years from now rust de winter will be declared a non-fishing dam i recon

Boet sounds like you need some serious Happy pills...........

Hope the depression clears soon - best you go fishin in a hurry.

The clearing of bass from RDW has been going on for many years now.

Fortunately 90% of the peeps who do this are bankanglers. The dam is a fairly decent sized dam and has a good population of fish.

I am by no means condoning taking fish out but it does assist with controlling the fish populations in the dam and by removing fish (small ones especially) one will actually allow the dam to flourish. Bass have exterminated dwarf tigers that used to be caught in the dam even up until 2 years ago. So what is left for them to eat?

Each other? Other species of fish.

I believe that RDW will continue to FLorish as a bass destination for many years to come. All the negative publicity that it recieves from the press re the hook and cook brigade just encourages more people to go there quickly before the fishing does become really K@K. IF peeps did not know about fish comming out thick and fast almost no one would go there and peeps were keepin them.

Anyways my 2C worth

Long through - but won't affect fishing.

Scap by the bass frat to keep the hookers and cookers @ bay

Sorry can't confirm but either way we can still fish there on the race track..........

You mean race on the fishing track...:shut::, i think thats why i don't get any fish at RDW, i don't have a 500 hp, quad-turbo, nitro-supercharged 21ft F1 racing boat that leaves a wake the size of a boeing 747 behind it, which is standard issue equipment for scarying them lgf's into the corners where they then will grab a clean hook just to get out of those waters........

:f1shy

::S my :cens:swearoff..... yip them schumies can get annoying at times, which is probs the biggest reason for me not wanting to go there.....

:uzi 'em up, and watch 'em crash 'n burn

SAM 7's
they work better, far more acurate and they eliminate their targets completely....:hyst:

This is my update as promised.

Got off from work on Friday at 12:00 and went to spar to buy all the needed goodies for the trip on Saterday. Saterday arrived and it looked like a promising day judging by the weather, car was packed and the lady and myself was ready to go, on the way to bronkies i got lost and ended up at some garage asking for assistance from some guy that looks like he had a head role in the movie "Texas chansaw Masacre".

Got to the dam at long last and was told that it's the wrong side (housing site) and we had to go around to the other side in order to fish. As a good south african citizen should be i told the guy " Vlieg in jou Mo3r" and left bronkies to the rest of Gauteng's community that seemed to ALL be there when i decided to go!

We made our way to my favourite spot and this proved to be a great exitement for the lady seing that she never went there, we got there and the dam was as muddy as can be after all the rain! We were doomed! 320 KM away from home, a coolerbox full of dop, R200 worth of meat and a car pitch black from the mud!

I did what any good south african man would have done, i started drinking! We there and then decided to drive straight home again.

After stopping 299 times for the lady to peeeeee in the bushes and after drinking 100 beers we arrived home and i decided to put up tent in the backyard! We had a braai and we got dronk!

This is my fishing story - sad, painfull, expensive and still worth it i recon!

Guys, if any of you have a fishing spot that i can use now and then please let me know.....i am really starting to hate the city and the fishing spots around here! I am lost and it seems that even my favourite fishing spot has now become goverment property and there is a huge sighn up there saying private property.

I would really appreciate a nice PEACEFULL fishing spot if anyone can help, i am willing to pay good money too.

Adapting to the city is very hard, i am originally from eastern cape and grew up on the farm.

Regards

Wow MR Rapala,

SOunds like you had a rough weekend............Sorry to hear that Matey.

Bronkies is usually one of the better destinations to visit in gauteng with reference to bank fishing..... sad to hear that the weather and condtions did not play along with your plans.

I must add that I'm a lil intrigued that you drove 320Km from Home? I thought you lived in Gauteng not Bloemfontein. 90% of dams North of pretoria (Bronkies - East) Have hard rocky shorelines - no mud this may be a place to start. Bank fishing - that is not an easy one - IF you had a boat I could offer suggestions but mybe there is someone else whom may be able to enlighten you further.

Maybe worth contacting Pipeman as he is from Potch and I know there are some good venues there.
