Hi All

I had the pleasure of meeting anton on many occasions in our warehouse as he was for a while managing an estate up north and removed from his friendly fishing waters.

His visits were never short and never without plenty of fishing talk.

I and many other have great respect for his abilities as angler and it took a lot of convincing for him to allow me to post this.

He caught this beast 3 weeks ago.

(In light of this please read and think before typing, this catch is a once in a Generation catch on this tackle and not just a once in a lifetime catch)

He was out doing some light spinning on the Beach near the Swartvlei mouth on the Cape South Coast when he hooked into this absolute Leviathan...........

Tackle Used:
• Shimano Sustain 5000
• Yamaga Blue Sniper 10ft Rod
• 30lbs Jigman Braid
• 20lbs Flouro leader
• 60gram Duel Tamentai spoon

The fish dragged Anton 1.5km up the beach from where he hooked it. It had turned belly up by the time he landed it and after 1 hour of concerted attempts to revive the fish it died, much to his dismay.

Anton weighed the fish 16 hours after landing it and it weighed in at an almighty 64.5kg

Considering that with shark tackle Kompstamps attempt to revive his fish after 1 hour and then Havoc taking took 1 hour to release his 50kg Kob the chances were slim that it would recover from the fight on the tackle used. His dismay has been great and as a result he has held back on making the catch public (He tried for an Hour but himself was to Exhausted and the fish was showing no Signs of Life).

So guys enjoy the pics and give credit where credit is due

Thanks for sharing Anton and Congratulations

HUGE ::respekt: to the angler !! An Epic tussle to subdue that monster on that gear..

Think if he had weighed it sooner it may have been closer to 70kg ??

What was interesting is that in his case the ORI is way out

"Length was 1740mm and girth was 1080mm. According to Ori this has the fish at around 56kg. I have forwarded the info to them for them to use in predicting weights. "

Wessel maybe you can add to this, as far as i can remember your ORI reading said 70kg but the fish was 50kg odd?

Just goes to show what influence condition of the fish has on the size conversions

With that tackle he had to be 100% secure in all his knots and condition of tackle to even have a chance at landing that fish

Skill, preparation and the right tackle and you can move mountains.

the more I think about it the more I realize what and awesome catch it is - - - from a beach

Brilliant catch on the tackle. One of about 6kg on that tackle would make me happy. Craig is this not maybe a record for the tackle used or would this fish had to be caught in a comp to qualify seeing as he is a club member.

ja my fish measured 1870 cm which puts it at 70.6 kg
must add his was very stocky hence the weight.

he also landed this by himself!

Epic catch on that tackle, well done! Makes you wonder, what could be lurking in Swartvlei? I know that the lerries get up to 25kg in the estuary

YHO YHO YHO!!!!!!!!

What an catch. Like enigma said, a catch of a generation on normal tackle. On that tackle I'm sure I will never ever see again.

Well done to the angler, he can put his rods down and die an happy man.
