Hi All

I am looking for a round handle knob to replace the standard flat knob on my Sustain 5000Fe spinning reel as it is not the most comfortable when spinning for a long time.  I am looking for a round type know similar to the one on the Sustain 8000 (Tried that one, but the shafts on the 5000 and the 8000 are slightly different)

Any assistance or pointing in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.

P.S.  I am looking for decent quality knobs that would be a straight swop and npreferably not require the old shafts to be drilled out etc.

Hi Albert,

I think I have the prefect solution for you, as I have just done the very same thing. You need to order the following part numbers 11831 which is the knob and 11832 shimano badge(cover) from the Sustain 6000/8000FE reel. You then unscrew the small screws holding in your Sustain 5000FE standard knob. Keep these. Unscrew the brass nut, slide off the flat handle, replace it with the 11831 knob, replace the brass nut, insert the 11831 shimano badge and resue the same screws from your old handle. Parts should cost you no more than around R 200 Your parts diagram (in your reel box if you still have this or see attached diagram) of your 5000 should also show you the 6000/8000 diagrams. If you study these it should be clear.

Hi, thanks, but essentially it is just replacing the 5000 know with an 8000 knob.  The handle shaft on these two models are different, the 5000 has 2 bearings and the 8000 has one bearing and a bush and although you can fit it on the 5000 shaft it is not an exact fit and will in all liklihood wear after losts of use.  I was hoping to get a know that would be an exact fit on the shaft (have a look at the 5000 and 8000 handle shafts and you will see the are slightly different.
