Hi All

 

Can anyone please advise me on how to make your rig when sliding from rocks.

I Normaly slide from the beach with a 8 or 9 oz grapnel sinker and to that the stopper ring that is on the main line.

 

I want to know is what sinker to use and what to do if you dont get a pickup. How will one get the sinker loose if it is stuck on the rocks.

Is there a different rig to use from the rock as of from the beach.

You can make your rig the same.....if you want to you can make it longer to 1-1.5meters.
For add protection since i see you are from PE,put a 1 meters piece of steel on the stop ring and connect your leader to the steel.so the slide will go over the steel,giving you better/more protection of getting cut off.

You can use the same sinker you would be using for sliding.If you realy think you are going to be snagged up then you could bend steel more open so it release more quickly or you can bend the tips backwards.

IE you can basically do the same then what you would be doing of the sand....

JIp my first nig raggie was caught by luck.i made my slide the correct way though.BUt i was going for big fish.I think my leader was like 0.8mm(way too thin of rocks) and i did not have steel above my stooper ring(so i could have easily lost the fish),as a bonus my stopper ring was tied directly to my leader,not the swiwel to leader way(so i couldve burned myself of)

and i had a whole lot of bad stuff happening to me for that hour.i could do a huge post of it actualy.lol

Your first BIG fish you will strugle.luckly i had a fellow angler help me out with the to do's. All like were doing here...

I sort of disagree with Fluffy, i would use a 1.5mm wind on, no steel and use a very thin line on the sinker trace, if the sinker is stuck it will part before the burn of, i make my traces quite short, no longer than 60cm as the longer the trace the more chances there is for a twist up. the steel at the bottom of the leader is just a week point, swivel or not. my 2c worth...

For sure i would use thinner line on the sinker.Actualy i use the same as my main line.i just make a slightly differnt/weaker knot. For the steel on top of the ring.Sure you dont need it. But if the chance is there that the shark can bite on your leader when it doubles back i wont take it.Have lost allot of fish that way before. Even when using the top steel on the stopper ring.

1.5mm windon would work with any fish.But i also just dont like replacing my leader line every time after it was grinded by a big shark.So therefore aswell i put on the 1m steel on top of my stopper ring. OF ROCKS i u can use longer traces since you would be sliding from a steaper angle into the water.Also depending on water conditions.if the waves are breaking heavy shorten your trace. On the beach i,also current/wave dependant i would make my trace shorter since the incline on the anlge has reduced and the long trace will tangle.

you dont have to change a 1.5mm wind on after a fish if you do then you are using k@k line for the windon yesterday i got a 145cm spearnose and it was stuck in the rocks for atleast half the fisht and also got my leader wraped around the rocks while the fish was washed by the waves and i had a good look at the leader today and its still plenty good enough to use atmididly it is 2mm but ive caught a raggie on a 1.2mm wind on then got another one off the bricks  and it was landed by the windon and the shark was just over the ledge and the leader was rubbing on the rocks and it was still fine to use afterwards...

Thats why i use the top steel... to make sure i dont get cut of or bitten of.was used to catching raggies.and they bitting up the line......ask yourself the question......why do people do swimbaiting with such a long piece of steel....

You can use the normal trace you use when sliding of the beach - just go bigger on your leader line.Use a thin sinker line and make a knot on the line - this allows for your sinker to break off easily if stuck.

Hi guys,

I'm new to fishing. Any chance you could help me? What is a "stopper"? And what is "wind on"? I'm wanting to slide for big fish (not sharks) somewhere in or near to PE.

Does anyone have any pictures or videos of how to set up a slide rig?

Respect to all the seasoned fishermen. I'm still learning, but I'm hooked.
