Anyway, back to fishing...
The last weeks have been strange to say the least, we still having loads of wind and northerly most of the time which of course is a horrible wind here and water temperature as remained in the mid 24c all along with very little surface activity...
But even tough the billies were hard to come by we still had a great time with game fish.
On the 13 September we fished we started our first charter using Yacht Maximmillien as our mothership with Kobus Jonck, Andre Van Der Merwe, Charles Theron and Gert Meyer....and had an absolute blast on the first day when after a slow start light tackle game fishing we come upon a mayhem of fish very shallow off Sailfish Bay.
In no time at all and within the same school of boiling fish we got 17 nice game fish off 6 different species including yellowspotted and greenspot kingfish, pinkhandle barracuda, bonito, yellowfin tuna and loads of nice size cuda.
After such great fun we decided to move deeper and put some Marlin lures and Halcos out and within the first 20 minutes raised a Marlin on the long corner lure but no bite. However we had a brilliant day with lots of big yellowfin in the deep, some we lost to sharks but managed a few good one´s up to 26 kg!!!

We then started with Aaron Atkins and his son Andres who had visited us once before in November 2009 at which time Aaron had managed to release 3 Blacks in as many days.
I spoke to Jason fishing on Big Bob and Johan fishing on Aphrodite and both had fished the last week or so solid for Marlin and besides a few raised fish nothing to show for their efforts and both reported that it was very slow out there with little to no surface activity, bait, birds and cold and off color water...
So it was to be on our first day with only a few good YFT and wahoo to save the day...

The second day was much more lively and we started the day with all 5 bait rods going on at the same time. We got a bonnie, released a nice 15kg plus YFT, put two football size YFT on the tubes and rigged one and set it up for live bait.
Half an hour later this one got taxed...
We put the other bait and that also got taxed...
We put our third bait and after half an hour that also got taxed by a T-bone!!!
We were working pretty deep but still the hammers that had been so scarce (which is for me a bad sign) seem to have arrived with a vengeance....anyway it was a very eventful morning as we fought hammerheads, got bait, fought sharks, got bait, got taxed, etc etc etc
Half an hour later this one got taxed...
We put the other bait and that also got taxed...
We put our third bait and after half an hour that also got taxed by a T-bone!!!

Tough fish looking to be around 450, and Aaron actually told me later he had never been beaten up by a fish like this. We had it on the leader after 20 minutes or so but he kept going deep it took us just under an hour to have him by the side of the boat, place a tag and sent him on his way.

The water started looking much better further north and as I got to the point I moved in shallower to try and get some bait….but instead when we got to the 55 meter mark a nice fish looking to be 600 lbs plus moved in our long left lure but missed it altogether and never come back for seconds.
We got a couple YFT and had some bonnies which we rigged up and decided to use skip baits.
The highlight of the day was when out of the blue both our bait rods and one of the skip baits were taken by some serious big fish and we had a tripe hookup!

The first fish to come in was a good 28 kg YFT that gave a good half an hour tussle on the bait rods…

I had wanted to deal with the fish on the bait sticks, so at last, after all the chaos I told young Andres who had been watching all the mayhem from the chair to start working his fish and with a huge grin, the young boy who had for the last two days been whining that he really wanted to catch a shark, finally brought in this 120 odd pounder for a release.
