Hey guys,
Hi. been following this forum for a while, recently moved to Aus and I am find the fishing a bit different.
I have some old reels. And am wondering just how much they affect my distance.
They are the Penn 85, Polansky 20 and 40.
With my 15 foot rod (rated 15 kgs) I an getting about 110m with the Pol 20 and 20 pound line.

I guess the question is, would the new reels significantly improve the distance or alternatively what could I do to the Polansky to improve the distance?

Second, my personal opinion is to invest in a decent reel, depends on what you plan to target, let us know, i.e. eds or ineds.

Thanx Koper.
Not sure what they have here, so was thinking of having a go for something like skate or shark. I have a heavy /stiff 12'rod which I would like to match to a decent reel, and then there is the 'medium" 15 footer which I would like to use for tailor and samon "chad and Kob" in SA.

Maybe start of with a Saltist 50/Tor 30, Quantum Cabo or Finnor for the ineds, you can use it for the eds as well, but at least its one reel that can do all of above to start off.

Lets hear what the rest of the guys propose.

Dave I agree with Koper . I personally always considered the Policansky, to be a better boat reel .Than a casting reel my 2c

Locals casting about 40-50 metres, but then they are targeting herring and whiting, which grow to about 6 inches, (kinda what I want to use for Live bait, 110 is just the sinker though, rugby post to rugby post?).

Have decided to upgrade,

So quick question, could result in a long answer though.

 

What rod and reels do you recommend?

Info is as followings:

Looking for 2 rods. (13.5 to 14 foot)

With overhead reels. (not coffee grinders :- have 3 Penns for that. (950ss, and 2 x 850 ss reels)

Target fish

In-eds  (skates _ shark)

Eds ( chad, Snapper, Kob)

Shore based and rock fishing.

I thought of the the following :

2 x Poseidon 1403 HMG 36T in the 5-7 OZ (medium) and the 7-10 OZ (heavy) rods.

with the Diawa  (50 H) Saltist reel.

 

I have 2 PCP air-rifles in SA, which I won’t be able to import (value +- R15000), so I thought of selling them to fund these.

Before I get my mate to buy and post I would appreciate some comments from you gents.
