Hey everyone.
took my papgooier uncle to Cape St. Francis today, the ineds were very quiet! Not a nibble, nothing! Tried mackerel, mullet, octopus, sand steenbras and chokka. Live baits, dead baits, flap baits, 2 live baits on 1 slide - nothing doing
The lack of big fish didnt mean the day was a total loss though. 2 Southern right whales cruised past us - not 80 metres from the side. They're so quiet and chilled that we didnt notice them till they were pretty much dead head of us. Also saw 2 (BIG) bottlenose dolphins and 2 indo-pacific humpback dolphins.
the smaller edibles (aka peckers) were quite loose though. Managed some nice sand steenbras early morning on bloodworm, as well as a few decent stumpnose. Later in the day the mullet came in their hordes and we had some great fun on 'light' tackle (9ft ugly stik xxh!
).
Another angler went to fish on the opposite side of the point and got a huge janbruin. (well the biggest I've seen - well over a foot in length). Man that things got a helluva set of gnashers.
We start getting the baby bronzies in September off the boats in the bay, so things should start happening from then at the point. Come on summer!!
