Jaweed, from what I have seen in the past Hermanus Plaat might have a heavy wash from right to left in Springtide conditions. As far as prawn are concerned at Prawn Flats - the rain the past couple of weeks had affected the water levels in the lagoon and seeing as the mouth has not opened up, you might have some trouble finding prawn as all the good prawn spots will be in deep water by now. The water has come up right to the caravan park if it will give you an indication of the depth.

Where at Hermanus Plaat do you intend to fish?

I have fished Hermanus a few times but am defintely not a local so dont take my word as solid. I fished off teh beach where the mouth joins when it was close and caught really nice steenbaras. Got one of 4.5kg. There some nice holes along that beach! Take along plenty prawn.

Hi Guys

thanx for info, the place we going to start fishing is just past Hermanus, as you come into Stanford, you turn right at the service station(only service station) turn left at church till you reach gravel road, turn right, then first left(think the sign says something about a chicken farm. Follow this dirt road right to the beach, you can see Gansbaai on the far left, and Hermanus on the right, great views are sometimes had of whales breaching, and we have seen loads of dolphin here too.

This spot has produced BIG steenbras, and even heard of a 20KG kob being landed here. We are still deciding to go either this weekend or next, only thing holding us back is the thought of Spring Tide, really wanting to fish though, long time since i had a decent days fishing.

hi Jaweed

I was at Hermanus plaat on Tyesday last week.. round about spring tide time..it was a lovely day, gentle NW blowing... thousands of Harders in the water..all along the shore. 4 whales in the bay basking and frolicking.. BUT not a single bite. we had blood worm, moonshine, fresh prawn and 1000's of whiye mussle available right there..but no fish. so locals arrived and said they were targeting some Galjoen but more towards lagoon mouth. we decided to return home though..

conditions and water looked gfrat but no sign of edibles around..
my theories:
*we should have waited for about 3 days after springtide
*maybe too many bait fish in the water
*poor luck :(

well good luck..let us know what happens

Hi Guys

thanx for all info, we've decided to cancel this weekend, spoke to guys who fish those spots often, they reckon that the westerly winds are definetly not good for success this weekend, will see how next weekend looks like, will be pumping for bloodworm and moonshine this weekend rather, and preparing for the onslaught........

We could make this a get together for members also, what you guys think?

guys

Is hermanus still happening tomorrow. Swells predicted are big 4.5m-5.5m .

Miles how will this affect fishing from the shore. Do fish come in to feed or do they go further out. last week Saturday not even a bite in false bay. I need to catch something....

in hermanus try fish at betty's bay ( it's by the place that you can see the penguins)there were alot of galjoen coming out;use squid and/or white mussels. there was also but from the rocks a little like 2 min walk up from the galjoen spot by the parking lot.there were lots of tiny reef sharks;sardine(cut up), otherwise the hermanus lagoon didnt do much for me, i tried to go for shad on tiny spoons but nothing came out. So good luck.
