I have a new boat and we decide to do a little fishing off Roodeplaat on Saturday gone past.
Not having done any freshwater for more than 15 years I stop off at a little fishing shop on the way there and start talking to the owner.
Stating that I am at a loss for the species to target at this time of year and the method to follow.
I have a boat full of lures but am told the specie to target now would be Carp and Barbel and to rather go to Renosterkop Dam instead.
Armed with a further R750 rands worth of bait tackle and feed off we go to the HOT spot described.
Arriving we anchor with two anchors and toss the feed into the water as instructed about 10m out and all around the boat. In anticipation we wait for the fish to come on the bite expecting to be tired of fighting fish by 2 o clock.
On the way to the spot the fish finder is going crazy and there are fish breaking the surface all around us.
At the spot however there is nothing not even a ripple. We do not worry about this as the fish will soon find the feed and then start hitting our Rietvlei rigs.
At two we are indeed fed-up and pack up after only two minor enquiries.
On moving off the spot I once again start seeing fish on the FF.
I think what went wrong was the following.
1) When I approached the spot and did not see any fish activity I should already have moved off.
2) The boat needed a 3[suP]rd[/suP] anchor
3) Should I rather have been targeting bass?
