HELP!!

Please Guys?????

I have just installed a garmin 520s on my boat but I haven't a clue.

When I put the card in my computer, it says that I don't have the appropriate program to run it. When I put the card into the unit it says that the card is empty.

I have looked on the website, but that might as well be Greek.

How on earth do I make this thing work????

What map is on the card. I baught a bluechart g2 vision for my 520. This however only works in the gps and not on the pc. U have to buy specific bluechart software exstra if you want it on your pc.

I phoned Rene and she got it working in two minutes.

How does a GPS pick up direction? Via sat or by internal compass?

I ask because mine shows me pointing in the wrong direction and north is also wrong. Is this because the boat is on the trailer in the garden?

If I'm not mistaken, its by satelite, I believe you have to be moving for the unit to know in which direction you are going, then with that it will determine where is what

Check your settings. You have to set your Garmin to 'Track Up', North Up, etc. Whichever you prefer.

And remember, when all else fails, READ THE MANUAL!

you need to move for it to get a reference in order to ascertain wihch way you are pointing...

You guys are spot on, your bearing is determined by movement when using a GPS.

Example, when driving along try stopping, then reversing and look at your GPS display – your ‘bearing’ is now 180° to what it was when you were going forward – but the boat is still pointing in same direction.

You can however build your own digital compass with an NMEA 0183 output to your GPS. This will always keep your true bearing data flowing to your GPS unit.

Now that I have learnt how to use my GPS (Garmin 520s), I have had a lot of success on the reefs.

Now I want to graduate to hunting Cob and Hake deeper out on a vast, flat, structureless bottom.

I tried this a few days ago, thinking that I can cruise around and watch for fish on the screen. Nothing!! Either there were no fish or the unit does not work while moving?

My question: can one do this or do you have to stop every few hundred meters to check the bottom? (The fish I am targeting are on the bottom).

 How do you guys go looking for Cob and Hake?

your finder will pick up the bottom up to quiet high speeds but you must set it up properly to do so. some gps initalize themselves but it is so they can set themselves up for being in the souther hemisphere and some other things that i dont understand.
