Sheesh guys please help.

firstly great site and forums , respect - im listed as hacker coz thats a beginner golfer ,im so ignorant i dont even know what you call a fishing begginer.

:imnew

trying to wipe my dust off my old stuff and prove to my kids that people really catch fidh out of the dam with rods .

im booked at oranjeville this weekend ,,is it really to late in the year like everyone says or will i be ok ,,what are our changes of catching a few this weekend , bait lures and any other wordly advice would be greatly appreciated.

papgooi absolutely at carpfinder , been a few moons since i been fishing , now i read about specimen fishing and see most of the guys doing bass off boats , but me will just be bank fishing

Well i would start of with naking feeding spot hey! there are some good old tricks like beeslek in your mealie bomb!You can buy it from places that supply feed for farmers and stuff like that you just graite some in to your mealie bomb! Sweet dough always works! And do you have a canoe or bait boat?

canoe this time round , but never fished here so not sure how deep to go , i believe stawberry muti and tigernuts are the order for the fish here ,,,any super special recipes anyone willing to part with ,,ill be glad to try them out

ok the canoe is only coming if one of my mates come with otherwise just going to have to cast for my life mmm maybe i should get some tips from ryan ,,,word is he has a superhuman post 100 and something metre cast

Hey hacker, welcome to Sealine bud!:welcomesea:

The best thing for you to do is to try and keep casting to the same spot EVERYTIME so that you can build a feeding spot to bring the fish to. Even if you can only cast 50 or 60 meters out this will still work. But check first how deep the water is where you want fish. walk in and see how far in yo must go before it is over your knees. If it gets deep quick then you are in luck and you should have reasonably deep water in front of you. Obviously, if you have walked in 20 meters and it is still only just above your knees then you are going to have to work hard to get the fish closer and on the bite. As it is getting colder you are looking for deeper water as the temprature will be more constant and this is where you will get your fish.

Be sure to try mielie floats and sweet white dough as hook baits, and don't use too much concentrate on your mielie bomb, only put a small amount on. Use softer flavours such as caramel rather than the sharp flavous. Leave your hook baits clean and don't dip them. Also, never under estimate the power of "The Mielie"! Just a single grain of maize with a dough backing will also do the trick.

During the day I would say refresh your baits every hour and a half to two hours, but make sure you are casting to the same spot so that you can build a feeding spot through the day, Take your time when you cast to make sure you hit your spot every time. Leave your rods in for the night and wait for the action.

Hacker if you have a canoe take it with, the bigger fish are deep at Oranjeville around 200 meters. There are a lot of snags though.

Great advice there DuaneJC. Did exactly that a few weeks back and outfished the whole club I went with for the day...lol!

That little bit of extra work and thought put into your angling definitely pays off! Good job on doing so well at a club comp! Which club did you fish with and where was it?

It was with Verref at Ardenza. Weighed 13 fish. I think the guy that came closest had 7 fish or so. He did however get a 3.6kg grasscarp. I lost a fish on the bank as it unhooked itself and one I dropped next to the keepnet as I was trying to avoid a wave caused by the wind. I normally go with my soon to be father-in-law. He loves fishing as much as I do. What a trade-off! My fiance goes for a nail session and I go fishing for the whole day! Hehehe... Lifes great!
