Help - Fishing Jersey

Hi All,

Hoping you can help me. A friend of the family just called me asking if I knew where he could find those typical black polo neck Jersey's that all the commercial fisherman wear?

He does a fair amount of night fishing these days, and is a pretty small skinny fellow, and he says he's been freezing his butt off, so wanted to know where he could get one of those heavy black polo neck jersey's that the Commercials use.

If anyone has any idea, please let me know.

Thanks

Nepps

PS - if they sell red Jacques Coesteau caps, that would be an added plus! :)

Hi

I had a similar problem. The problem is that pure wool is expensive and synthetics will leave you colder cos the sweat is not wicked away from the body.

Step 1: Go to wool shop. Accost an old tannie if you must to ascertain the location of such a shop, but spend the money on pure wool.

Step 2: Ask at wool shop if anyone knits to order. If not go to craft market.

I went to the Sunrise Circle Flea Market which I usually avoid and asked the Zimbabwean women, who do the croche work, to make me a jersey using some Shetland wool that I had bought. They took my measurements and I am going back on Sunday to pick it up.

They charged me R150 for the work.

For a size XL allow about 1kg of wool (about R400).

A properly knitted pure wool jersey will last a lifetime. I have a jersey that I got when I was 16 about 20 years ago that still gives excellent service.

Yip JB, i have 2... One oversized one in a thinner wool for nightfishing in summer tidal rivers/freshwater...

One thick one my good old mom knitted me. If you have a jacket on over that even in winter more often than not u end up fishing without the jacket.

Hi Marthin

There is nothing like the comfort of pure wool. Wearing acrylic is like wearing a plastic bag.

Three cheers for moms who still take the trouble to knit jerseys for their boys to go fishing in. Even if their boys might have grown up!
