Heard so much about this place, lovely scenery & good fishing. But dont have an idea how to get there. Can anybody give us a good indication of the roads to follow to get there. And do you need a permit to enter and where to get one? Also heard that its a hell of a "mountain" to go down to the beach and some distance to walk to get there?? Thanks.

Huisklip is an excellent spot for gallies ,poenskop and steenbras.
Unfortunately you need a 4*4 to get there or a high clearance bakkie.
The roads are not marked and you have to traverse through farmlands to get there.
However once you are there the beach is only a 2minute walk from the parking.
There is a moer of along beach with rocky gulleys   and a rocky  point  with lots of reef and gulleys past that .
In other words from your vehicle there are literally miles of fishable water depending what you are after.
I have not been there yet but some of the locals here go there regularly and lately alot of big poenskop have been coming out off the rocks !!

this used to be controlled by the municipality but one no longer requires to pay at the gate which has been unmanned for the past few years .
Just make sure that you have your national fishing license with you , if not get one at the post office for 60 rand. maybe we could meet at the palmiet vlei  turn off and go from there together.

You still need a permit, it is obtainable from the Kareedouw Municipality.

Another thing, if you're on the private farm that you need to cross, please close all closed gates behind you when you are through. You are after all going through someone's back yard, please respect that. This farmer has locked his farm gates to visitors in the past and will surely do it again.

Last thing, it is NOT a two minute walk from your vehicle to the beach, it is a VERY steep downhill climb, a baboon needs a walking stick to get back up there again, so make sure you are quite fit

Fishing in J-Bay is quite in general, Cape St Francis will be a good bet, if you're in for a little drive and don't mind the general state of the gravel roads, I'll say Oesterbaai

Sorry for the typo
Its a 20 minute walk down. I've just spoken to my friend whos been going down there for the last 15 years and its definately not as bad as what mousedog says.
For an unfit person it would maybe take 30 minutes.
The path down is about 1-2 meters wide and at a few places its a bit eroded and is steep but not at all like climbing everest!
Please note a normal vehicle can not pass through the bad section and a minimum requirement would be a 2 *4 vehicle with a difflock.
Also you cannot park at the bad section or else the farmer will remove your valves from your tyres and then tou are really stuck and besides its another 2-3 km to the sea from there.
Another thing is the permit issue...These guys have been going down every two weeks for the last two years without permits. there used to be a hokkie with someone sitting there but this is no longer the case. To try and get anything from the municipality in karreedouw is like trying to get  a donkey to bark so I wouldn't be to bothered about this anyway.

u quite corect thr gallie.u dnt need a permit, the hokie n boomgate that was 0perati0nal is n0 l0nga in business.JUS PLZ DNT LITTER 0N THE BEACH!coz thr are talks of the muni. to close huisklip d0wn agen becoz 0f litter pr0blems.its sad n we gna suffer 0nly

I agree totally
You know theres also talk now of closing natures valley aswell because of the littering problem
Its sad to try andunderstyand the mentality of the locals who all leave their trash behind but they are the ones who always ***** and moan when places get closed because of what they've done.
When my wife and I go to natures we carry a few black bags and when we come from fishing we pick up whatever we can and throw it away at the shop.
Its a pity that the sanparks rangers sit on the beach allday and pick their noses instead of lifting their arses and actually fine these fisherman who are littering!
Is polluting not a punishable offence in anycase?
I wouldn't worry to much about the koukamma municipality closing this area I think they do not have the man power or brains to enforce closure. they dont even have enough money to post our municipal accounts  so we have to fetch them ourselves .
Its sad but its true
