Hey guys, Next month on the 8th im heading to durbs for a few days. Gonna be on the south coast, Amanzimtoti. My home town. Wooohoooo. Never really speared when i was living there, is there anyone that lives down there that would show me where would be cool to dive or join me for a dive? I lived in Warner beach so i was gonna head down the Baggies and take a swim out around the rocks and see if i could see anything. Any ideas or divers from there?
Thanks
^^..

Hi Simba

there is good reef at Warners, you can get gamefish on the point or if you want to go deeper there is nice reef behind the sharknets opposite the bathing area also more scattered reef the same distance offshore south of the tidal pool. If the water is clean I'll join you and show you the spots, just give me a shout

cheers

Thanks alot Paddy. Could you pls PM me your number.
What fish you guys generally get off your shoredives around warners? I got a mate Gerard Vosloo that boat dives there alot and gets some nice fish. Unfortunately he's aways over those days, so i thought i put a word out and see if anyone else could show me a spot or 2.
Thanks once again Paddy.

Hi Simba - I'm in Toti, also know Gerard. I Haven't been spearing much lately, but i know there's snoek and couta around, so bring flashes. Heard of a guy spearing 2 weeks ago further south who got 5 couta in one dive. If you can get on a boat, the shoal has been producing couta, YFT and the odd wahoo. Maybe try Umgababa point as well for snoek.

Hey Stinker. Yeah Gerard was gonna take me out on his Jet Ski that he spears from. But my dates changed and now i arrive on the 8th and he leaves on the 7th for france. Absolutely gutted. So i will have to go with a shore dive, either by myself (which i really dont wanna do) or if someone can come for a dive with me. I just really wanna dive there. What about getting just behind the backline at warners and checking around for some garrick possibly? Im not sure. Im pretty familiar with warners as i grew up there all my life surfing. But now im spearing and would be nice to have someone in "the know". So yeah as much advise would be amazing.
Thanks
John

Hi John
Garrick is definately a possibility. I remember for 3 years in a row i shot my first garrick for the season in the first week of May, but that was a few years back. But i'm sure if you hunt the points you could come right. Maybe even some snoek. Dive with flashes.
As for Warners, i haven't dived there much, mostly dived south - Ifafa area etc.
Dunno if you know the pipeline/twini area at all? Just north of Toti. Lots of reef in the shallows & scattered to the backline in places. Then +-20m deep, behind the shark nets, there is alot of reef/caves etc. A friend of mine shore dives the deep reefs and gets some good game & bottom fish. I know he got a 26kg prodical there too. I've fished the same area on my ski with good results. Just a heads up, apparently there is a resident white that patrols that area, but i haven't heard of him/her taking anyones fish yet.
Hope it helps
Mark

Hi Simba

Lots of garrick, snoek, kingies & salmon on the point with cuta etc out deeper - I personally don't shoot reefies but there are a number around on the deeper reefs. The area is quite sharky and I saw a big white there a few years ago and last year a smaller white (2,5m) a bit further south at Wydenham but never really been hassled.I haven't dived at Toti area (so if you could give accurate landmarks I would really appreciate it Stinker) but am keen to give it a go. When you get down give me a call on 0832277088 & even if thia area is dirty we could dive somewhere like the Bluff of No 1 if you like the deeper water

cheers

Hi Simba,

There have been a few fish around the South Coast lately,we seem to have had quite a good run of cuda this year.

I have not heard of anyone getting garrick yet but I am sure it wont be long. I think everyone has had cuda on their minds. Last week was good on the Shoal and quite a few Wahoo and cuda came out. I finally managed to get my first wahoo after a number of failed attempts! But I must say that the Zambi's and Blacktips were wild!! The one fisherman that I spoke to had managed to get 1 cuda out of 6 onto his boat.

If you are down Scottburgh area give me a shout as I am always keen to dive.

Good luck.

Hey guys, once again thanks alot for the info. I wanted to ask, when i head down, should i bring my surf suite or maybe just the top of my spear suit? I dont wanna dive in a full 5mm. It will be just too hot i recon. Another thing, when we go for a dive does anyone who will dive with me have a float and line i could borrow? Im bringing my gun etc but space wise its gonna be too much to bring.
Thanks alot.

Water is very warm at the moment so your 5mm suite will be to thick. CT surfing wetsuite will be more than warm enough. I'm sure we can sort out a float & line

Scotties was looking good this morning, small swell and clean water.I know some of the guys got Natal Snoek over the weekend. I should be able to dive Monday and Tuesday morning providing nothing hectic happens at work.

I also have a spare bouy and bouy line if you need.

Nah i wish. Water was super muddy. On my way to the airport i stopped at Ushaka for a chow and saw some guys going out by
Vetchies pier. Apparently there were a few fish to be shot. Wanna try make it down there for the sardine run.
