Having to write a test to receive your fishing/bait/crayfish est. license

I reckon that to receive your fishing license (or any marine recreational license) you should write a test similar to obtaining a gun or learners license.

How much more of these insane suggestions do we have to endure? How much more difficult do we want to make our favourite pastime? What r we? - anglers! What do we do? - catch fish! So why the h*#ll r we still debating sh#t like this? It seems as if the one wants to make fishing more difficult for the other! First , closed season for steenies & now this! Whats next? Total ban on rec fishing? (heaven forbid). Who says mcm is not monitoring this forum and start planning ridiculous laws based on our " BRIGHT IDEAS". Come on guyz, lets all STOP this nitty gritty, UNITE & make this forum much more pleasurable & enjoy one anothers fishing experiences! There will always be "poachers" no matter what the outcome is.Imagine the corruption for people trying to buying their licenses instead of writing the exams...

After the 3rd time writing it would have been cheaper to buy it illegally.

I can't understand why the post offices aren't giving out brochures on size,limits,ect.

Yes! In the end it would only help if the laws are inforced, but it's horrifying to see how badly these laws are inforced, so the test actually wouldn't solve the problem.

If I am going to pay +R1000 per year for fishing licences etc. I want them to actively educate people buying them. Like Kumz said give them a DVD or something and concentrate on educating people. At least print the legal sizes and closed seasons on the back of the license (maybe with a small photo of the most restricted or endangered fishes?). Issue a separate Kreef license with space to fill in your catches and have it certified. If they want me to carry my permit with me at all times they will have to issue me with a waterproof one. After all we have to be close to water to be able to fish!

Since "subsistance fishermen" will not be paying license fee's they will also be exempted from any test.

From what age do you have to be in possession of a valid fishing license? Is it 13 years? What is the use of a test when a 13 year old must be able pass it?

Been fishing now for 40 years and bought my first licence when I joined sealine,now you want to write a test , hmm there goes the idea of having a licence again ,there ust arn`t enough parkies to police that......
