It may be a bit light to cast 1,5oz to 2oz lures that are the norm these days.

Maybe look at the Shimano Vengeance 803, Daiwa Megaforce XXH 9ft, Or Sensation Passion stick 9ft XH. They all throw 2oz lures, ideal for surf drop shot and lures.

bought one in Dec. used it mainly for shad because it's a cheaper rod and wasn't to worried about it getting messed up, can honestly say that there is nothing wrong with it, has a nice action can throw light lures miles, paired it up with a Daiwa Procaster and 10lb fireline.

havent used it for drop shot yet-but it is pretty sturdy.

use it on the boat in rivers and it holds its own very well.

I have this rod at the moment. The length is excellent for the shore based stuff. The nice stiff action allows great control of the slightly heavier jig heads. It is not the most sensitive rod though so not ideal for the finesse type drop shot situations. If you are looking for a good value rod then I would definately reccommend this rod. If you are looking for something that allows that extra mile in terms of lure control I would have to say spend a little more. I am happy with it so far. Best fish only a few small bigeye kingies though. Extra length makes for good leverage when they looking to cut you off on the bricks.

Just my two cents :)

I have a gully hunter equiped with a shimano slade.
