I know all the guys are busy with their reports.
Let me tell you how our trip started, that is Spyker, myself, Michele, Lewellen ( cook) and Maureen ( cook's girlfriend and assistant)
All our papers were handed in at the Angolan embassy in Windhoek to be processed long before required.
Every time you phone them to find out if all is OK, they answer that they dont handle this over the phone and that you must come there personally to enquire. Now being 210km from there you cannot just pop in quickly to see.
So we get an agent to handle this---- He goes there and gets assured all is ok and we can collect them on the Thursday before we leave the Sunday.
Thursday---- he confirms all is ok and we can collect on Friday.
Friday--- I drive to Windhoek to collect the passports.
On arrival I get informed that the passports ( Spyker, myself, Michele, Lewellen) are ready for collection.
BUT, before we can collect them we have to pay 1000 US$ each. Long story short I told this guy ( from the Embassy- not the agent) to phone a friend, or something like that.
So all of a sudden our papers are not OK, and we need this and that. We then get hold of the Congolese Ambassador and the Algerian Ambassador to phone the Angolan Ambassador to help sort our documents.
Now Friday is already Monday.
The answer-- SORRY ITS THE SYSTEM NOT THE PEOPLE THAT REQUIRES THE PAPERS.
The more we tell them but the papers are all there, the more he systems and systems.
Call a friend, who calls a friend, who calls a friend---says go to Oshakati, they will help you there.
So we go----there nothing wrong with our papers ( exactly the same papers as in Windhoek).
Now its Tuesday afternoon and its going to take 48 hours to process papers.
Phone a friend, phone a friend, get the president of Angola's son to phone this Ambassador.
JACKPOT!!!! they will process it immediately, and they start. Papers get done no problem,
BUT, SORRY--we have run out of the visa stickers they stick in the passports and they will only be here tomorrow--that's Thursday.
So Thursday comes and at 14hoo they tell us it will cost R 16000-00 for the 4 passports. It is now emergency passports.
15h15 we get out of the embassy and race for the border. We made it and the rest is in the report.
PS-- It was damn close or we didn't make it.
