Guys what do you think of this boat?

This is an awesome boat. In fact my avatar is a pic of a Blood Snapper I shot taken standing on its bow.

It belongs/used to belong to Andre Badenhorst. There is ample space to store kit and the fish hatches, well, we managed to fill them only a few times (hehehe).

This boat was also my first experience with four strokes (fk me!!!). Those Suzukis give more than enough grunt.

The deck is super soft and if you lie down (even when travelling, you WILL fall asleep. Had many a quick snooze after a hard days dive.

With a 2 year old and another on the way, buying a boat is not an option at the moment, but THIS is the boat I would buy or advise without hesitation.

Corry,
Nice fish bru! You guys have it good up there hey?
I can imagine that it is very stable while drifting... How does it ride in a bumpy sea?

Cheers,
Andie

Hi Ledge,

Thanks, KZN is definitely a good place, although when Struis/Arniston is on... 2 Years ago at Nationals we got Arniston in prime conditions. They were basically Natal conditions and we did really well. The WP lads saw Wahoo which I'd reckon us Natalians would have had a fair chance to land.

The boat is AWESOME and that is an understatement. We have been 7 on the boat and no hassles. It is quite heavy so rides very nicely and I wasn't joking about the few kips after a hard days dive.

Ledge, I reckon with the three guys you see on the pic there was probably a ton of fish on the boat. Gules ( one of the best divers this country has ever had ) sitting on the boat has been a Springbok since before I knew what diving was. Corry correct me, but I'm sure the guy with the 2 dagas is Brent another Springbok and captain of the national underwater hockey team. Then Corry, don't know why he hasn't been a bok yet. You can throw these guys in anywhere and they will load a boat full of fish.

Hahaha, thanks Eenvoet.

Indeed that is Brento, and yep, Gyula is certainly (IMHO) in the top 5 divers SA has ever had. Brent is also a very accomplished diver and a pity the UWH distracts him, hehehe,

I am the diver I am purely from diving and learning from him. He has an amazing analytical mind and his approach to diving is meticulous. What few people know is that Gyula is quite an accomplished chess player, at a time rated in the top 2000 in the world.

He would at any comp see what the guys shot and over the next few days you could ask him who shot what and he would remember. He would also be able to deduce where they shot fish he hadn't seen. If ever there was a guy who should have won NAtionals, it is him. But like Ernie (Els) had to play second fiddle to the best and second best divers SA ever had. Tommy and Jaco.

Interestingly, in 2009 when Brod won Nationals SKZN, he was one of the proponents of the points per species system. This was heavily opposed by the Cape guys but voting saw the system used. If we had used the traditional system, Gyula would have won, pipping Brod. Brod reckons that second day was unbelievable, every fish in the ocean just swam right up to him. He shot two Wahoo when no one else even caught a whiff of one. The best part was that some guys still wanted the points system abolished and Gyula fought it, even after he knew that to abolish it would have counted in his favour.

And no, we didn't have a tonne of fish on the boat, bad day at sea, only 995kg. :fbash hehehe

That Blood Snapper in the pic has a story, Gyula is a firm believer in not coming up without a fish. THe spot we were diving for the Kob was quite deep and we were backing each other up. As it was my turn to back Gyula up I went after him. I saw the Snapper and was astounded when Gyula shot a Bream. I dived to the bottom and shot the Snapper thinking he never saw it. When I got to the surface he asked did I get it? I was astonished why he would leave a class fish like that. He said he had been down too long and knew I was there so didn't push it. A wise lesson.
