Guys

If you have a Topographical Map of some piece of water or dam on your pc, then please if you don't mind Name it and post it here so that we can perhaps build a good D-base of Topo Maps?

You going to have a bit of a problem with that as the Topo maps are on big paper and cost a fortune

Example:

Witbank dam has one Key map with 9 or so sub maps and cost R185.00

So is there no way we can get these maps in an electronic format?

Also, is the only place where you can get these things in physical format that dwaf place in Schoeman street?

What about earth Google, does it have topo maps or only sat pics?

My machines' tooo oooooo old to handle Google earth.........hehehehe nice working for the G-man.....

You can scan them in but DWAF might give you up hill if they find out.

Yes that is the only place you can find them. Garmin is working on a product that will give us Topo maps of dams and not just the surroundings.
Google earth only gives SAT pics

Well, getting hold of them won't be as easy as just opening this section and printing the map for one, then there's the physical size issue, (scanning it in might deteriorate some of the detail) and lastly the legal aspect of these maps being scanned and copied etc.

I've searched the net real hard and couldn't managed to find anything significant in relation to topo maps, maybe I haven't looked hard enough, however the above mentioned issues are still a concern.

LGF believe me I look just as hard and there are NO topo maps on the internet for local SA dams and the only place you can get them is from DWAF. The quality is not that good and you can’t even work out what the GPS points will be when you find a spot on the map. So you basically have to use the map and satellite photo’s to try and find an area and then use fish finder to try and locate the spot
