Please can you advise me where I can buy back pack straps, preferably the one with a waist/ back support belt. we are in the sticks here and any help would be appreciated. You can pm me too. thanx guys.

For the waist belt you can use a weightlifters belt. Any sportmans warehouse or mr price sport.

I also struggled to find shoulder straps, so I made mine out of seatbelt material and just put padding on. The padding I used you can find at any midas or car accessory place, it fits over the seatbelt with velcro.

Hey Uncle Bob,

You could try belikoff  (http://www.belikoff.com) . They sell army surplus goods.

I bought a couple of rucksacks and frames from the Cape Town branch some time ago. The rucksack and frame from both have the shoulder straps and waist belt included so either you can use it as is or simply remove the straps and retrofit to your bag.

For extra padding you can use this ... they make them for cars ... .

I am going to be making a few so want a reliable supplier who can provide me with new stuff but thank you for your input and I will use it on my own stuff.

Hi Uncle Bob... I had my H-frame customised for those long walks along the beach, it cost me R200, but it was well worth it...

The straps and back padding are filled with 25mm high density foam, the H-frame is actually useless without padding, it bruises your back !!

Front view of the h-frame... The latest addition was a pocket for your keys and smokes infront of the frame with a zip...

Hi Maasbanker, that is shweet. I agree hence me looking for something very similar but seems i will have to get it made here somehow. very lekker set up.

Hi Uncle BOB, approach someone who does upholstery, they'll be able to assist you, it might be a bit pricey but the h-frame is very much useless without the straps, I'm sure you'll find someone in your dorpie...

What did the whole setup finally set you back and did you do it all yourself?

Thanks for the compliment ! My boet made it for me and it set me back R650 in total, I think that it was a better deal than the frames most tackle shops are selling for about R750 without straps.

Have a look in the second hand shops for that padding used on roof racks to protect surfboards. I think the surf shop in Knysna that is lcosing down has them on sale for R50. I've had mine on my bag for years. Works like a bomb

Maasbanker,my one is about the same as yours but where you have the camo material I had someone made me a canvas bag with with 3 copper eyes on top and 1 on each side to use cableties to fit it to the frame.It looks like a big envelope where I can put my rainsuit my cofee bottle my snacks and my white gold in so I dont have to unpack the hole black box everytime I need one of those items.It looks in the same direction as the black box but its only about halfway down the frame so it dont interfere with the opening and closing of the lid of the box.I dont want to hijack the post,just my 2 cents.

Lofty, I don't mind the hijiack, only if you promise to take me to Skool se banke and to Fransmanshoek Strand when I visit Mosselbay LOL ! That's the very next "model" I'm going to bring out, with a draw-string "bag" to pack items in, but the next "model" is going to have added back support as well...

Thanks Lofty ! Oh, yes I didn't tell you where I sourced the camo material... it's a place in Paarden Eiland, i'll get you the name and number a little later, I need a strong cup of coffee to wake me up !! LOL ! We were fishing the Saal in 2000 and we caught some nice Hammers there but a local told me that he didn't know when last he saw a Kob come out ! Another local we met (a diver) told me that the reefs are completely polluted with plastics and line !! :(  I think Sealiners need to start a new thread where we nationally choose a w/end to clean our beaches and take pics. The guys from Durban to Henties Bay dedicate 2hrs just picking up litter to show our dedication and love for this resource...

Hopefully things will get better !
