Grinder Rod

Hi guys looking at Grinder rod around R2000.
4-6oz 13-14ft.
Been looking at the Assassin Equinox and Okuma Metaloid. Any feedback on any of the two rods, or any others that should be considered?
Thanks in advance!

Have had my Metaloid now for two years, have fished it hard, love it.
great action, backbone yet still very sensitive, also casts a mile.

I am looking at exactly the same rods, it seems the Metalloid have the better components over the Assassin.

I saw a few older posts where Enigma says the Okuma blanks are very good but I dont know if you compare the two.

Howsit guys, these rods have different rating... Used the 13.6ft from each range as an example.

Equinox 13.6ft is 5 - 7oz and has stainless steel guides & Webo winch. Need to be religious when it comes to cleaning these guides - they will rust over time.Basil Manning site markets the Equinox as a capable entry level rod.

Metaloid 13.6ft is 6-8oz and has Fuji K series guides & Fuji winch. I own this rod and its very capable though a bit heavier than the 4-6oz rating that was mentioned earlier.

Metaloid is a 30ton blank and the Equinox is a Nano Resin Tech blank. I have another Assassin spinning rod with a similar blank and its super light and strong. They also use the Nano resin tech on others like the Sierra . Not sure if it has the slit reinforcement like the other Assassins though.

Other options in that casting range are the Makaira 13ft 4-6oz rod - about 2.5k, Azores 13ft +-1700, and Poseidon Coastline medium if you can find one.

Thanks for the info Glassy. Would you be able load the Metaloid enough if you cast a 5oz plus small bait?

To be honest I only throw 6oz and a range of tiny to large baits with that rod and it casts like a dream.

Why not look at the Metaloid 12.6ft 3-5oz? Also Fuji bits but no casting aid

Hey PV9, here are a few other options...

Penn Legion II 14ft 3pc 4-6oz - not sure about the blank and guides.

Okuma Azores 13ft 4-6 oz - 3Pc 24 Ton Carbon

Blue Marlin G3 4-6oz - some positive posts on these here on SL.

Loomis Shockwave 14ft 3pc 24T 4-6oz - dont know about the guides

Loomis Shockwave HMG 13ft 3-6oz 36T blank & Fuji NLG/PLT guides and Fuji dps reel seat (according to Ganis)

Also Assassin Surf - Full Fuji components, quality O-Series guides

Hope this helps

Sorry PV9... this is a bit of a highjack!

There are so many rod options out there these days I cant keep up. You guys mention the Regiment rods up top but they are already outdated with the new Regiment 2 range that came out. I prefer fishing the lighter rods and have to say I almost walk out of the shop with a bit more debt after picking up the 13,6ft! Its rated 2-5oz and has a extra slim blank. Pricing wasn't to bad either at R1800.

To come back to the options. You guys mentioned a couple already. But just look at Assassin, Im a fan and own a few but I am still struggeling to understand which is which. The R&S range is huge with the Surf, Beach Master, Equinox, Zabre, Horizon, Evo, Solaris, Bluefish & ALectis (I think thats most of them) then the new ranges all got Zero added to the name as well... Its all a bit confusing. If someone could rate them for me from best to worst I would really appreciate it ;)

I think best would to go to a shop and check them all out and then decide which feels best to me, because it seems to me that it will come down to personal preference.

I use 7oz sinker and big baits with my 13.6ft Metaloid. No problems and a easy cast
With 7oz sinker alone you can let it rip without a problem
