Greetings fellow jetski nutcases!

I am considering putting fast pods onto my jetski for the following reasons:

1.Add to stability of craft.
2.Easier,more solid stowage for gear + fish.
3.To free up space in the gunnels.Fishbags on either side hinder movement.
4.Opens up stern of vessel as there will be 2 capsize canisters,1 on either side.
5.transfer some stowage weight to the stern and hopefully lift up the bow somewhat.

I am looking for some feedback from people who have done the mod and your before and after experience.Some pros and cons needed.

and what is the verdict?.

Never quite understood why one would buy a ski and then try and convert it into something like a boat ie: more space and stability. No offense intended but a boat is less money and offers more space and practicality. The argument that it's easier to tow doesn't seem to hold water as most ski's are pulled by 4x4's anyways.

Please don't slate me it's just an opinion!!!

I had a boat and now own a ski, the problem with a boat is that you need crew to launch which is not available at all times, a ski is also verry quick and you can respond to a situation much quicker, this is the most important thing for me, I a very scared to launch a boat through the surf because I do not do it often because I do not live close to the sea, but with a ski, I am not scared at all. I agree on the towing excuse, you need a 4x4 to launch at the beach.....

Hi,I also want to fit jetwings to my FX160 ,when they fit jet wings they remove the sponsons on the jetski,my question is how will affect the handling on the craft

I spoke to the people at Fast Powersports yesterday and was given a quote of R20K to have fast pods fitted to my ski.I know it would change the fishing dynamic of my ski for the better,however am not prepared to spend that kind of money right now.I also don't believe that they will add value to my ski upon resale(engine hours is the criteria here).2 x fishbags will have to do!

That's a super cool rig you have there Brown Dog!A GTI 130 if I am not mistaken?!(with everything that opens and shuts.Do you have an ice machine in there somewhere? ;)

@ Pork Pie, this is a public forum and you are entitled to an opinion ! To enlighten you the reason why i fish off the platform i do is because of the ease of craft we have developed. In the summer season i can fish up to 3 times a week depending on time and weather and of coarse the bite so for me personally the jet ski was an obvious choice. A boat owner cannot at the drop of a hat fish as much as i do nor compare costs either, i.e. i can fish 3 times to a tank of gas in my van opposed to pulling a boat i would only be able to fish once on a tank as i live in pmb and run to the beach as needed.Run to Umhloti from DSBC and back in a an average boat and how many cans would you use? Maybe 4 depending on the sea = R1300.00 x 3 times a week = 5k My ski would use maybe 30 ltrs @ R400 x 3 times week = R1200, the numbers work for me. Also its all about choices, if i had to buy a boat, i would personally by a Yeld, new at my spec, maybe 350k my ski new and specced maybe 180k. Jet ski's were never designed to fish off hence the mods people like defending world champion Dustin Motzouris has cleverly produced which makes the ski extremely user friendly.

@ Ancient Mariner, the ice is maker is always churning out the ice in the chalet and well enjoyed! The ski i am currently fishing off has only done 120 hrs in its first season as i had a very poor first season on the FAST rig and have loved every second fishing off it with zero hassles.

Its a pity you won't be experiencing the fantastic pods build by FAST as they are certainly market leaders in my opinion and i wouldn't settle for second best.

I eagerly await the new season and look forward to many hours of quality fishing time on my FAST Power Sport Sea-Doo.

@ pork pie:When I first got my JS,I shared your sentiments regarding the fast pods and electric winches on trailer.I could not understand why people would buy a JS and try and turn it into a ski boat,and why they were too lazy to winch manually.Then the more I fish,the more I realise how efficiency at sea is the key.Fish bags in the gunnels at first were fine,but now I am experiencing restriction of movement(and difficulty loading a 20kg couta with one hand).Winching the ski onto the trailer manually at first was also fine,but after a while and long tiring sessions at sea,it becomes rather tedious!

@ brown dog:I knew it,there had to be an ice machine in there!At what hrs do you intend selling your current Seadoo?I have a 2006 Gti 4-tec with 165hrs.She is in pristine condition.Closed loop cooling is the only way to go(IMHO)Also,has given me zero problems in the 100hrs that I have put on her.I am considering selling her at 250 hrs.I will put the fast pods on my new ski.I don't believe that I will get my money back for pods when I sell current ski.Obviously the people who make the pods told me I would.Also,what is the most hours that you know of on a GTI 4-tec motor without any repairs,only following service schedule?

Hi,

The current ski will most probably be sold after another two seasons.These craft can do vast amounts of trouble free hours as long as they are serviced every 100 hours.Dustin knows of rentals in the states with over 7000 hours on them and not any thing except normal servicing has been done to them.You can be confident in running the ski for many more hours and be confident it won't let you down.

@ Brown dog:7000 hrs is nothing short of amazing!Well in that case I will keep mine for at least 1000hrs! :)The 4-tec motor seems to be a real winner all round.I hear that they also use them in aircraft where reliability is obviously of paramount importance!
