grass carps

Nothing they are still there and they are getting really big with a lot of 10kg+ showing in Bloemhof and 15kg+ in the Vaal

As it warms up they will start coming into the shallows and feeding more prolifically. December sees them getting more active through to Feb and then March which seems to be there month of most activity.

Same question as to where are the Kurpers of Loskop or Roodekoppies. Very few around but watch activity pick up late Nov and then Feb - March when best catches are made

Thank you Enigma.

You would not find me complaining about the absence of grass carp, but thanx for asking shuraj, it helps to know if there's some kind of pattern to the whole thing, like Enigma has just highlighted there could be. Enigma, any comment about the prevalence of muddies this time of year in the Vaal River? About a month ago I could only manage a couple of muddies and no carp at Dimalachite on the Vaal River?

All the freshwater fish are in stages of spawn and also found where there main food sources are. I have seen that the fly fishermen have been getting a lot of muddies in the strong flowing streams and on nymph patterns which translates well with the first hatching of Midges and other water borne flies.

They and the yellows are also staging to spawn and obviously the cold fronts still affect the fish adversely. Early November and all the spawning and other things that preoccupy the fish coming out of their winter slumber is past and they are eating lekker and will keep you busy all day at the river and dam.
