Grass Carp

We managed an 8kg common the first night but couldn't sack the carp due to the high risk of otters, and the follow ing day the grassies paid us a visit. These two are what we managed to land, we lost a monster fish at the net which was well over the 10kg mark and two more due to snags. Here is my question, is it common that you will find so many large grass carp together in the river? And the best was they where all caught on boilies.

Thanks, all the fish where caught on a private farm against the vaal river. The y all fell for a pineapple and peach snow man rig presented over a particle bed.

Mooi visse.

As die graskarp die boilies begin eet, kan dit wees omdat daar te min ander kos vir hulle is, of is dit 'n kwessie van die spesifieke geure geval hulle ?

Hi Fanie,

I'm very curious myself about the grass carps habits. To actually have three or four fish of this size pick up you bait on the same day is very interesting. Funny enough we caught all the fish on the bottom end of the swim, they left traces of all the particles and boilies in the weigh sling. I want to try fish this specific spot in a week or so and see if i get the same results.

It's a new species in our waters and it seems nobody really knows how to catch them.

There was a time not too long ago when it was considered impossible to catch common carp on lures - today it's the easiest fish to catch on lures.

It's going to be a matter of spending the time trying different things and thinking outside the box. I have to admit the fact that these fish grow so big makes persuing this somewhat exciting.

Since it's such a sh4t fish ;-) perhaps it will flourish well in the already poluted Hartebeespoort dam to eat all the rubbish there.
