Grapnel Sinkers

Hi all

I am interested in finding out

do you guys bend your wires back on grapnels or not  or do you leave the wires as is

I have seen just the points bent flat on some and on others about half the wire and would like to hear why anglers do this ? pardon my drawing very basic

I bend 1cm of the wire back when sliding. I find it makes a huge difference in helping the sinker "sit"........when fishing off of very high rocks sometimes it is better to leave them unbent as because of the angle of pull this will help it bed better!

What I do ( don't always know if its right ). Very soft sand bottom bend 1cm/1.5cm. Hard sand bottom don't bend.
Do the experiment when you are at the water as bottoms differ currents differ. Sometimes if both of these do not give the required grip maybe increase the weight of the sinker or leave it a while longer to sit before sliding

I must try this ...? Can you use a lighter sinker if you bend the wires in this way?

Never tried lighter. I only use 9 / 10 ounce for sliding. My fear of lighter sinkers is that they wont anchor if you slide a big bait!!

Even 9 ounce lift on occasion. If your sinker does lift just stop doing everything and wait a few minutes it will sit again and then you can continue sliding!
