Hi Guys & Gals
Where is the safest place for your graphite rod when the lightning comes and you are fishing next to the dam?

i'd some times usually just leave them on the stand lying flat and avoid having them standing up pointing to the skys or put them flat on the ground in a safe place that no one would accidentally step on them.

i guess u could also break them appart and put them away of your really paranoid.

Thanks not paranoid just very safety wise and careful don't want any death or injuries.Same as not standing under or near
trees when lightning is present.
Kind Regards

Best place is flat on the ground, and believe me you are very wise raising this question and following the advice

Graphite is an electric magnet

Yes flat on the ground and just touch it with your shirt after the lightning is away to discharge it.You won't believe how conductive graphite is we were on the boat a few weeks ago and there was weather a few kms away and the rods were buzzing of the static.

Just remember to at least cover your reels with a cloth before putting your rods flat on the ground (with reels attached). as the rain often "splashes" bits of dirt onto and even into your reel creating friction etc.

The terms graphite and carbon fiber have become interchangeable to some extent. However, graphite in lead pencils and graphite in a fishing rod are obviously not the same material. The material that makes a strong rod is actually made of carbon fibers. Both graphite and carbon fibers are carbon-based; the differences lie in the process that produces the end product.

I don't think on the stand or on the ground will differ much?As long as they are not pointing up.But I won't be standing near them no matter how they are stored.
