GPS Routes

To some this might seem to be a bit of a silly question, but I'd rather ask before I drive into a rock formation or something ...

When one plan a route using different waypoints, will your gps direct you away/around any dangers along the route.

So lets say I launch at Millers with SW Reef as my first stop followed by RB. Will the chartplotter calculate a safe route around Cape Point or will I have to add additional waypoints around to avoid driving into Rooikrantz??

No, it will calculate with direct line, as the crow flies.

The chartplotter does not have any knowlegde. It just show you what was programmed into/onto it and it only show you your position relative to the chart loaded.

You must plan your route around all the hassards, and then the autopilot will take you on that route.

Just keep watch of containers drifting and anything that coulg harm your GRP.

Thanks for clearing that up for me Hamco. Now at least I will conquer the oceans with a bit of extra confidence.

BTW - love your ride!!

If you want to launch at Struisbaai, I can give you my waypoints for running into the harbour form the deep to avoid the wreck of the Oriental Pioneer, Borrelgat and the Las.

You just them run out on Hawe1, Hawe2, Hawe3 and back Hawe3, Hawe2, Hawe1.
