Fishfun's post on Marlin hook got me thinking.Strange things happen while fishing.A couple of years ago i was fishing in the Langebaan Lagoon.I was fishing in what they call the middle canal.Had two rods out.At that time had a tiny kreefbakkie with twin 5Hp motors.No rod holders or anything like that.The first rod got picked up by a decent size Stumpnose so I was fighting the fish.The second rod got a massive pickup and started being pulled overboard.(had forgotten to put it in freespool) I lunged for the rod but too late.Overboard it went.Had a Penn 500 on it to
f course we started jigging and dragging that spot,but to no avail.Wrote it off and continued fishing.A week later I was fishing in that same area.Got picked up again, fish on and started retrieving.Strange kind of fight though.Fish comes closer tangled in line.Pull it aboard and start pulling in this line which some "thoughtless" fisherman must have dumped. Lo and behold in comes a fishing rod. You guessed it.MY rod and reel.Not finished yet.There is still line out.Retrieve line.Strange sluggish weight on end.In it comes.I don't believe it.A smoothhound shark of about 2kg on the end.Hook in the mouth all rusted.That just astounded me.Unhooked the fish and off it swam.Cleaned up my Penn 500 and still have it to this day.And to top it all off, the same crew I fished with a week previously were on the boat again.
