Hiya Guys,

Has this been done?

Why dont we start a thread in 'Fishing Grounds/Spots/Locations' where members can post Google Earth maps with fishing spots, locations and some info.

What do you guys think?

How about one big google place mark download for the whole of South Africa...
And then the alarm started ringing and I had to get up to go to work and the dream dissipated.

But it would be nice to have something like that.

Trophy let's make a couple of different threads...

Namibia, West Coast, Cape Town-Witsand, etc, and then add the lot together so one can start in Nam and end in Moz....

These images seem to only open with google earth-pro and not the regular version? Just thnking that it be more accessible in the free version or is there a reason for it being in pro?

Ok Trophy... so start the ball rolling...

Make up a .kmz file (Google Earth) with all the spots in PE marked... then give a write-up on the tips and venues... then we can add these to the database.

@Wayne... it's best to make up a .kmz file instead of doing the photo's. That way one can import it straight into their own Google Earth.

Nope. They were created with free Google Earth. I don't have the Pro version and I can open them fine.

Open Google Earth... go to HELP (at the top), and check for updates online. That will give you the latest free version...

The latest version on the free servers is 5.0.11733.9347
If you have a decent graphics card in your computer you can run Google earth in OpenGL. The results are staggering. If not try running it "open google earth using directX"

Enjoy

Once you got the place you looking for, press "PRINT SCREEN" on your key board. Its next to "scroll lock" on the top of your keyboard and usually says "PrtScn"

Once you have done that go into paint and go to 'EDIT' and select 'Paste'
Your page should look like this:

293ipav.jpg

Now select the 'SELECTION TOOL' (if you using photoshop it will be much easier by just using the 'cropping tool'):

Now make a selection of the map on the page and go to 'EDIT' and 'COPY'. Now go to 'FILE' and select 'NEW'. Paint will ask you if you want to save you work click on 'DONT SAVE'. once you in your new window go to 'EDIT' and select 'PASTE'. By now you should be left with something looking like this:

If you happy with the selection that you have, simply go to 'FILE' and select 'SAVE AS' and give your file a name and where it says 'SAVE AS TYPE' make sure you have 'JPEG' selected.

And bobs your uncle.

Hope you come right

In Google Earth, At the top, go EDIT... COPY IMAGE.

Then you need to open a Graphics editor... like MS PAINT

Then go EDIT.... PASTE

and the image is pasted from the clipboard. Then save it under the name you want...

Hiya Reeman,eXtincT

Perhaps a brief tutorial or description on how to create a .kmz file would also be great to get the posts flying?

Start off by finding the place it is that you are looking for on google earth. Once you have found the exact place you looking for go select this tool from the options bar on google earth:

2qippmw.jpg

Once you have selected the 'ADD PLACEMENT' a yellow drawing pin will come onto your screen. Using your mouse and the left mouse botton, click on it and drag it to your desired destination. Your screen should now look like this:

Now go into the dialog screen and add in all the details you want this placemark to have. As such:

rmqiw2.jpg

Dont worry about Style, View and Altitude. Once you are happy with the name of the place simply click "OK"

On the left hand side of the screen your Placement will be put into the toolbar.:

Now left click once on that placemark you have just created and it should highlight it for you. Then RIGHT CLICK and select "SAVE PLACE AS".

Select the folder in which you would like to save the file. The name will automatically become the name of your placemark. You are more than happy to change it if you want. The "SAVE TYPE AS" will also automatically come up as a '.kmz'
Now simply left click on the save button and thats your .kmz file saved.

Enjoy
