Hi guys, I'm very new to the Western Cape and want to have a go in Struisbaai area, what would you recommend for a good general trace, and what knot should I use.

I am a newbie when it comes to saltwater shore fishing so I will be glad if you can make it easy and add illestrations if possible.

To be honnest i dont even know what fish species to try for and how to get baiit so any tips will be helpfull.

They say if you dont ask you will never know, I have to start somewhere.

Furthermore I prfer a coffe grinder type reel, coul any one recommend a good startup rod and reel for this areas, Struisbaai, gansbaai, Hermanus and Witsand as I live within a 150km raduis from these places.

Please help!

Hey man. :welcomesea:

Its good to ask if not sure. We all do that. Thats how we learn. There are so many different types of answers to your questions and so many other factors that (as newbies we tend to overlook / not consider)that can make your sessions so much more productive. My advise (if at all possible), is to tag along with more experienced guys and watch n learn.

You can also try the search option (top of page) and do a search on your questions.... chances are that same questions have been dealt with before.

Gud Luck

I would say that you need to decide whether you gonna go for eds or in-eds. This will, at least for starters, determine your set-up. Eds - 13' / 14' rod and a 20 / 30 reel, or with your preference, a grinder that will match the rod. In-eds rod with lota backbone and bigger size reel with stronger drag.

With regard to fishing buddy's.... thats a tuff one, lol. Maybe you can ask around on the forum for any guys in your area or close to you, and organise to meet up with them at some stage. I know how you feel wrt 'fifth wheel'.... It isnt so. You'll find out soon enough that the guys on the forum dont mind to share their knowledge, whether on the site or on the beach.

Maybe you must move closer to Cape Town. Always guys to tag along with, Lol

Thanks so much, not that I know what Eds and In-Eds are but my guess is that it is edible an in edible fish?

I'll go for the smaller ones first.

Thanks for the advice!
