Good day every one.

I write here in the hope to find some advice as I am going to test some waters I have never done before.

My history of salt water angling can be counted on one hand, so I hope some of the persons with the know how can advise and assist me here.

I was invited on a fishing trip to Mazeppa bay end of June 2016, I would like to know what type of fish we can target at that time and how. If anyone would like to share there secrets please.

Ek is glad nie ervare met Mazeppa nie maar, in kort, jy kan amper enige iets verwag daardie tyd van die jaar. Verskeie spesies haai tot Kabeljou tot Leervis tot Elf, ens.

Baie dankie vir die terug voer, my semi tegnologiese gestremdheid het my nog nie toe gelaat om 'n suksesvolle search te loots nie, ek het wel op die lang manier op 'n paar artikes afgekom, maar nog nie genoegsame inligting bymekaar gekry tot my bevredeging nie.

Ek sal aanhou soek, want die tyd raak min en die senuwees knaag.

Sometimes Shad..... They have been few and far between the past 3 years
Black Musselcracker

Stone Bream
White Stump

Grunter
Kob, More Kob and More Kob and still More Kob...... 12-14 hours of darkl so plenty of time to fish for them all over with lures at night

Those are a list of edibles I catch there in the winter.

Bait

Paddletails with 1.5oz Jighead and 6/0 hook
2-3oz narrow Nylon Plug
Redbait
Sardine
Chokka
Freshly pumped pink p[rawn from blind river or 1st river

Sharks

Everything that swims past the SA coastline. Past 2 years I've seen or myself caught:

Greys lots of small ones but plenty monsters as well (DB's 300kg)
Tiger
Spinner
Blackfin
Bronzie
Raggies
Sandbar
Sharpnose
Hammerheads (scalloped and smooth)
Diamonds
Black Ray
Thorntail Ray
Spearnose

Best ait, Hammerjhead Cutlets, Lesser Sandsharks and Yellowtail

With the presence of Sardines and cold fronts passing through Mazeppa is very temperamental and requires hard fishing and long hours for success in thwe winter and you need to be adaptable.

There will be times when there will be NO fish, eds or ineds for 3-5 days and then every cast is a fish or shark for the next 5 days.

One day you can fish all day and within 1 hour there is an 8m swell running and you can only fish in the rivers.

The mystique in the Winter is what it is all about.

I fish Mazeppa in the Winter for ONE Bite...... In the last 5 years I've seen or myself caught in the winter.....

Neville Barnards Tiger last year
Owens 150kg+ Zambie that took his Grey of the front of the Island

Remember however that there are a lot of anglers there over that time and 50% or more will brlank for the whole period while fishing for shark or might hook 1 or 2 and lose the fight badly.

Mazeppa is all about the experience and the expectation
