Going to Oranjeville for family fishing compo this weekend. Biggest carp wins it. Need some advice on a few things and yes i have used the search function......

Will be making a feeding ground +-100m out and casting. My question is this, i made some groundfeed recently and followed some tips given on Sealine.

I used some chic-chic like feed together with whole mielies from Airport Pets. Did the ovenight soaking and boiled for +-1 hour. Found the composition was not loose enough, tended to stick together and looked like a block of readymix concrete when i retrieved it. Used empty coke bottle and orange bag with a few slits and swam out.

1) Any advice here on the composition? . And what would you recommend depth wise?

2) What hook bait flavours are good this time of year? swd dipped, already made up?

3) Using plain Supercast. Flavour on top of BOM ?

4) Floatie (flavour) or no floatie (someone once told me to only use if it had rained)

Thanks Lads

I can recall somebody asking about Oranjeville a while ago and somebody mentioned on the thread that it can get deep there, but I think it was 200 metres or something like that. But if you are going to cast, make the feeding spot obviously within your casting range. Also a good idea to make sure that you land your bait on your feeding spot. No use you can cast 120 metres, but it is all provincial (when one cast lands in the Free state, the other in Gauteng etc.)
Can't help you on the groundfeed, I just use plain popcorn feed and mix it with water.
I just fish with plain SWD on the top hook, and a plain floatie with SWD on the bottom. I just put some dip on the mieliebom. Always.
In terms of flavours, I would suggest the basics. Garlic/Something Fruity/TCP...this should cover you.

Garlic is always an option.Summer or winter. And dont forget the Stuttafords or Gumtree when the wind is pumping.

Think im gonna use my old border recipe. Custard dipped on a large farging stick of dynamite. On the other hook perhaps an aniseed hand-grenade.

Fishing can drive you to drink.....but love it FFS

Ok seriously, reading all the groundbait advice in past posts......ive two large buckets in the garage, soaking with maize, chic-chic, morvite(strawberry flavour), molasses, wild birdseed, maple peas, molasses, peanuts, marog, tigernuts, supercast, rice maize, hemp seed, rabbit pellets, green floura, glycerine.(might have missed something)

My question is: How stable is this cr@p......hope i dont blow up te neighbours garage as well

Hi there

i jut returned from Oranjeville. All i used was Vaaldam Supercast for my bomb and then the Vaaldam flavoured mielies. On the Saterday I caught about 16 fish. Mostly grass carp. I once used a cherry floatie and got hold of a 6.8kg carp. Other people with me used dough mixed with custard powder and they also caught quite a few. Casting was abut 80 meters to 100m.

Hi, I use a thing called Beeslek as a feeder, (contains molasses) and I have had huge success. I do believe that the ideal depth for large carp is about 4 to 6 metres deep. However, you can normally only get to those places with a boat. I also believe that if you are casting, you should be quiet on the shore and not stomp your feet, this chases fish away.

You should try use a marker, for consistent placing. It is also easier to put your feeder around the rope.

Try this, I have a feeling that it might work

Kind Regards

Billy

Good evening Billy :welcomesea::welcomesea::welcomesea:

KT,

Bunspice 32 is a dip originally made by Power Baits, but their floaties have become a widely used item in the hookbait arsenal. It mainly consist of Bunspice with a bit of anisseed allegedly added to the mixture.

Carp Red I'm not to sure about, but I think its made by Supercast. Not a dip widely mentioned by that name and might be known by another name. I certainly don't have it in my box and its also not on the "fringe of inclusion". But it works for others.

have a look at www.damcontours.co.za go to click on vaaldam, go to where you will be fishing and zoom in, you will be able to see where the depper water would be...
