Going Crackers

Hiya Guys,

Half the PE gang went to try and tempt our first PE Winter Crackers today down on the wild side of the bay.

Trophy, Havoc, KT, Mango, Mrs Mango and Shorty all set off after an early start and headed down to the famous Peg Rock in Sardnina Bay. When we got to the spot there were already a handfull of chaps perched on the Peg and Submarine rocks so we decided to head down to another of KT's less known locations.

We arrived in perfect time with two hours before full low tide. KT went about doing the bait collection...hawk eyes when it comes to finding the 'right' baits!

The water looked great and had picked up since the day before and everything looked perfect for a chance of getting into some Crackers. We had an open bay right infront of us were Havoc had caught 4 small Galjoen two weeks before so most of us took two rods down...one for the Cracked and a light stick to tempt a Galjoen.

Mrs Mango was first in with her flick stick and managed a nice little Redfinger.

KT arrived back with the baits and we soon had our Cracker baits going over the bay which is protected by a nice ledge. A good cast gets you over the ledge and into juicy white water with scattered reef pinnacles. Anywhere around this area can see you go tight.

With the big rods in some of use went about trying to find some Gajoen. I had managed to save some blood worm from Sunday's fishing trip to Brighton and used these as first baits...Thanks Shorty, now you know how to keep them frozen...

First casts and we all climbed into a whole army of Fransmadam's. We like to call the Karel Groot Oog or Karel Seamonsters (aka Havoc). There were literally hundreds of the buggers around right on the slack water and any bait presented was pounced upon!

On the push the critters pushed off for a while and I managed a small balck tail, but the damage was done and the few blood worms that I had were used catching 'Havoc' fish.

We played around with some chokka blob baits and some pilchard bait but the 'Havocs' were back on the bite so we concentrated attention back onto the Cracker rods.

Here is Havoc doing what he does best...That rod and reel combo is true testiment to TUFF tackle! One day we will have to auction his outfit off on Sealine LoL

KT had a few takes on his Cracker rod, but the bite never developed to the normal flat stick of a decent sized fish...he guessed it may have been a small chappie.

We had a visit from Upcomming Star who gave us a wave from the car park and watched us fish for a while...let us know what you guys managed?

The wind soon picked up and made the casting and feeling for bites tricky. The bows in the lines also meant you were forced to keep the rods high to avoid the slack getting caught in the reef...PE WIND!!!

Just after 11am the tide started pushing harder and it was not long before a combination of the waves wind an spray started pushing us back off the ledge.

We stuck it out until the water started filling up behind us...resulting in a wet wade back to the dry rocks and car park.

We are going to make an effort to do alot of Cracker fishing this winter...well at least I am going to make an effort. KT commented today that this was the longest he had ever seen me concentrate of Cracker fishing.

We took a recce after lines up and have decided to try some 'virgin' spots away from the beaten track for our next outing.

Wish me luck on my Cracker QUEST!

Yeah nice report there Trophy and I like "getting revved up for HITW birthday bash"-make a comeback with an avengence boet!!!

........ that is to say - IF the fish Play along . While We were there All they were going for were the gauteng number Plates ..... Dumb $%^&$#%%^ Fish .

Nah weather will be gud man !!! Anyway Team Gp can cath fish in any weather !!! :SSS
