G'day,

Thought I would share a few pics from a short trip back home in Dec. Although we only caught a few fish, there were plenty around and a few got away. Managed to lose a monster (see pic 3 & 4) after a long fight. We only fished in one EC estuary.

Caught on an unpainted leadhead with a green/black speckled plastic tail.

Big Leerie hooked on a red and white leadhead with white bucktail.
Elvis, my dog is trying to help....

Still on, giving my left arm a rest. The fish managed to get out the mouth and once it was in the surf, there was only going to be one winner....

Hey Aqua,

The smaller ones were further up river. There are some good fish in that mouth, but the tide was too strong for the gear I was using. Not sure it was a massive fish, but they are so good at using a strong current to their advantage. Once he got out the mouth I held on and pulled the hook - didn't want to get spooled.

I'll be back some time in April to settle the score!

Ja they also have a habit of foul hooking themselves making it a pain to land them in a current. Perhaps when youre back we can hook up and go catch a fooshie?

Thanks SAfish,

Retrieve wasn't too fast, an exaggerated jerk action seemed to do the trick....ie strike to about 60 degrees then reel up slack etc etc.
