Garmin Blue Chart

Does anyone know where I can get a Garmin Blue Chart (SA) for a GPSMAP178 at a reasonable price? I was quoted R3000, but I'm sure one should be able to get it cheaper than that.

Google Techshop. You can get it as a download. Im 100% sure that it costs a lot less than 3000 rand.

Yep. buying paper charts is a sshlep compared to having them on gps.

I agree 100%, makes live on the water much easier. I bought my Garmin 298 Chartplotter Fishfinder Combo and charts on a stick over the net for R8000, postage included. Money well spent.

Guys help me out here please, what does the bluecharts do?

I have a couple of GPS's that can take the map, not sure what it does, does it have all the reefs, island etc on it?

Hi There

"Bluecharts" can only be used on certain Garmin chartplotters, the maps contains the same info you will find on a SANS naval chart and more. All depends on the model chartplotter that you own.

Bingo is right. There are also some GPS models that support bluechart.
