PINE LAKE CAN BE TRICKY.
GARRICK
There are MASSIVE leeries there and the best way to target them is by using a 0.6,mm fluorocarbon leader attached to a 8/0 circle hook with a live stumpie or mullet hooked through the upper lip. No weight(sinker).Let your bait out about 15 meters or so and slowly drift or paddle and you WILL get a hook up. Remember NOT to strike on a circle hook and just tighten the drag.
THE BIGGER THE MULLET, THE BETTER!!!
Cob
There are some nice cob in the lower part of the lagoon. Small live cuttlefish is my preferred bait for them. Cuttlefish can be caught in any deeper channel with a chokka doilie or with a camo dropshot worm.
Best time is to fish on n pushing tide and along the drop off.
I always look for a color line where salt water meets the murky water and fish a drop off close to the color line. I have had lots of success on Berkley lugwurm (natural colour) and a 1/4 oz jighead. Bounce it slowly on the bottom and have patience, they will bite!
Live bait will work but the small leeries can be a pest.
GRUNTER
There are huge grunter on the flats in the lower part of the lagoon and targeting them with a drift line and single prawn is the way to go. We have caught loads of grunter by drifting the prawn over a sandbank. We also drift with pilchard belly from our kayaks over the banks specially if the water is very cold and this also works well for grunter.
A excellent bait for grunter is klip vissies (prison gobies), they work very well when the stumpies are a pest on prawn.
Remember to always look for a drop off for your predatory species and cast along the drop off (not into the hole).
Let us know when you are in the area and we can make a day of it!
Cheers!
