Gamefish Setup

Ahoy Gents,

I have 2 TLD 25's loaded with 0,55mm (48lb) Double X Fluro White and a TLD 20 with 0,52mm (43) Double X Fluro White paired with ugly sticks.

For general gamefish (Couta, YFT and Dorries) and the odd elusive Croc if its around, is the line class is too heavy?

I would like to pair the 25's with a Poseidon Couta Stick and the TLD 20 with the Dorado stick but i see I'm already outside recommended parameters on line class. Couta Stick is 12-15kg and the Dorado 9-12kg.

We fish DBN and 9 times out of 10 we come home empty handed. Juts want to make sure everything is 100% on my side.

Cheers

I have also scaled down. For Natal snoek and shoal couta I now use .35 mm Awa Shima Big game and for for bigger Couta and YFT as well as Dories9who don't seem to mind thicker line), I use .50 mm Awa Shima Big Game.

Leaders are just as important to increase strike rate. I use 30lb Fluoro carbon for Natal Snoek and max .70mm for the rest.

For those reels 20-30 lb line class is perfect.
THe TLD 20 and 25 is exactly the same reel only line capacity changes. Load all reels the same and pair with the same rods so that you standardise and use same drag settings.

Those Ugly Sticks are awesome rods, I have caught a marlin off Durban with one paired with a TLD 25.

For snoek,I have Kingfisher Snoek Ski's + SL30's loaded with 6.6kg(15lb), no leaders - they do have about 200m 20lb braid backing - just in case!!
For Couta/Dollies/YFT/Sailfish etc... I have Kingfisher Dorado Ski's/Couta Ski's + TLD 15's loaded with 10kg(22lb)and 5m 40lb fluro leaders.
