Hey guys....I tried fishing CP (Platboom) yesterday morning.
Got there early to get some fresh worm then fished a few holes on the incoming tide. Wind was pumping ESE and water was clear. NOTHING.....not even a knock. Then drove to Baileys Cottage...water looked very nice. Tried wonderworm and white mussel. Nothing. Packed up at 13h30.

Would love to know if anybody had any luck elsewhere yesterday.

Conditions , just looking at certain things were not in your favour. You shouldve tried buffels bay, SE doesnt really work for the Atlantic side. Have a look at what was discussed in this thread, there was one main contributing factor, that I would put money on, was the reason not many fish were caught. Im sure other factors came in to play as well, but the main one to me would be it, wont even tell you what that was!

Shites grootvis 100kts is a beast of a wind. Iv'e only experienced +- 70kts crossing the atlantic and that's already pushing towards praying time at sea.

I love using the barograph. every ship in my company has one on board. So much easier for me as its continues recording, and one can work out the barometric tendency witch helps a lot in getting an estimation of the wind (force) in the next couple of hours or days.

Thanx for the info on 1016...Ill give it a go.

So , to highlight something, Speartackle's and MikeSmiths'(galjoen frenzy) fish were caught on this baro reading! Coincidence!....;)
some info on the 2nd of August. went to koelbaai and got a 36cm and a 37cm on prawn with the baro on Grootvis's post spiking at 1018.20. N/W was blowing and gusting at 35km/h. cold front on the way. Monday 4 August was quiet. not a bite. was fishing with mussel and red bait though.

Was that in the morning? Its very interesting, as another species of fish( dont want to elaborate as it would be unfair to the guys that caught the fish) went on the bite on the 02 and 04th almost at the same time as each other, if im not mistaken at early evening, when the baro was steady on 1016 and if you look at the graph, on those days they were almost exactly the same before it spiked, if you see, there was a reading on the 02, 1016 before it spiked quickly. Unless im missing something , I can see a trend here.

Got there @ 7h30-got some worm and started fishing at about 09h00. Tide was low so we took a break @ 10h30 to eat something and tried again from 11h00 to 12h00.

Firstly:SE not good for the atlantic side, makes water very cold.

Secondly: Fishing baro:1018-1020, quite high, there was a very high system that passed us, hence the SE and easterlies.

That would definately have been the main factors, especially fishing with fresh worm and not a bite!

Thanks Donovon.........I'm learning all the time.

I am glad to see that you mentioned ESE wind, alot of folk always just go with SE! Even that in itself can be a little tip in itself, sometimes the SE has a little more east in it and sometimes a bit more south in it, the ESE is generally a better wind, the SSE can sometimes cool the water more and quicker, and i am actually specifically referring to False bay. Southerly wind, terrible!!

Shot for doing this.
I took a days leave Friday, and I got nothing.
I was armed with it all. I.e. Wonderworm, white mussel, prawn, matured and fermented red bait.
My hook(s) or choice was a gamakatsu size 1 and size 2 hook.
All I could manage was an undersized Hottie.
Busy rereading Wikus book, but yeah.
