Fuel Tanks and fuel lines

Howzit!

Are build in fuel tanks seperate compartments? If the boat has a build in fuel tank, external breather, external filler has hose clamps on all pipes etc but has a battery next to the tank in a battery box that is strapped down! Would this wrong or right?

Semi rigid boat has fuel line running in piping with other cables! I would say you have to remove it and rerun it! What do you Think?

as long as they are separated by something so if your battery shorts they can be no fumes to cause explosions. so if your tanks are under the deck you should be fine

Keep the battery as far away as possibel! All that is actually needed is a static charge on a near empty tank and you'll be sorry! Google static charge and fuel tank, frightening what you come up with!

A duck blew up at fish river about a year ago in that way (perlemoen poachers) i saw bits and pieces of it washed up on shore!

Personally i don't think built in tanks are a good idea for small craft! The slightest compromise to the system (air leak etc) leads to massive problems and a very difficult job fixing it and impossible to do at sea! Not to mention condensation and contaminants!

25l cans are the simplest, cheapest and least hassle!

Sorry for going off on a tangent but i'm still bitter from personal bad experiences with inboard tanks and i'm not the only one!

Hi, I can understand your reasons!! Most boats i check are for inland use and come from the factory with the tanks in place! the problem being its costly to seperate the tank from the battery and its takes up all the storage for equipment! So the question still remains! where do you put the battery? I dont think just seperating with a board is doing the trick, thats just pulling the piss and a waste of money! look at a car they have the battery in the same compartment as the fuel lines!!!

I dont think you can compare  to car in that the storage of fuel is not next to the battery, only the supply from the tank might be near the battery a single hose. There is also an airflow over the motor that would reduce fumes in the compartment most of the time reducing the risk of ignition if leakages

Except in a Mercedes....battery is in the boot, close to the fuel tank.

But I agree unlikely to get fumes there, cos you would smell then inside the car if you did.
