Hi All,

 

I have taken over the freshwater catch records.

You will see I have deleted most of the Junk (most of it my own postings) I have also deleted all the fish that are smaller than the current record for that particular species.

There were very nice pictures from the likes of itsarap - please move these to the freshwater section and start a thread as it would be sad to see them gone permanatly.:wfish

I will delete this post in the near future too.

When you see how few records there actually are you peeps need to start submitting records please.

Hi Ryan.

Any chance of some form of reference / summary table, showing species, method of fishing, etc, all the stuff guys and girls are listing in their submissions?
This will summarize the status of the challenge and help us post our pics straight to this thread or alternatively to the bragging thread of almost a winner pics.

Possibly a category / subcategory for records in table form: freshwater fly, fw papgooi, fw artlure, saltwater etc.
This thread is great.

I did not enjoy your reply.

Did basslover not mean that the Sharp Tooth Cat Fish had a 'sweet tooth' for Yellows too? And looking at the size of that beast, he could have gobbled a lot of Yellows.

And as for attacking bass "... the stupid fish ..." in general, I have to caution you on this path.

Seeing as this catch happened in 1996 I will forgive u the Yellowfish head , I would like to query the 0,02mm line however............

Nice fish Trophy. I would estimate that fish closer to 20 kg than 15 kg. I would say +/-18 kg. Pity you did not weigh it. Must have been great fun on that old Nite Hawk. To this day I believe that nothing beats the sound of a run on a Nite Hawk.

PS: I've had days at the Vaal Dam where I caught only small yellows (whilst trying for muddies or carp) and I've found the yellow fish heads to work better for the barbel as they are softer. Damage done: Vaal dam minus 3 small yellows. These days I believe that the grass carp "problem" in Vaal Dam is not such a "problem" if you are targeting monster barbel...

I caught a 4kilo barbel the other day that latched onto a small "grassie" I caught on a little spinning rod. What a surprise!

I will have my 20 kilo before end of summer...
