FRESH CHOKKA

Hi guys,

Does anyone have a good, reliable contact for fresh chokka? I often find that the chokka I buy from stores around are sometimes already turning pink! Please help out if you can, preferably someone who is based in the southern suburbs but I wouldn't mind driving out to get some good stock... THANKS!

I've been very disappointed with the chokka from Big Catch the last two times I have bought. Freezer burnt and half pink. Not what you would expect for R180/kg.

So I am looking for a new place to buy as well.

Fishing Specialist Goodwood. They are very reasonable and have excellent chokka. Tippex

Toe ek in Gordon's Baai so paar wee terug uit is, vat ek my pa se ou rep saam.

Yes Marin, I`ve heard that it`s a type of bleach.

I got a contact here that supplies me 10 kg a month for R40/kg  straight from the boats but unfortunately limited and catch depending.

Hi all, I have been using the P&P version for the deep sea fishing. It works as good as any of the whole chokka that I bought and to be honest it was much cheaper.
I make a point to buy when my wife prepares for our coastal holiday. I never tried it from the shore but I am sure it will work as well.
The only thing is that all the oils and other smelly parts are removed, that could be a problem from the shore.

My efforts with Pick & Pay bought calamari delivered zilch.

The crumbed and deep fried ones from their deli?

:hyst:

Think so.. I dont think it will work as well for the surf as it does for the deep unless that fish must be really starving..lol
All the natural flavours and smells from the chokka is removed, rinsed and sprayed with chemicals to keep it white and fresh looking which is most likely to repel the fish than attract it.
I mean..If a chocolate smells like a turd.. You most likely would not eat it. ;)

i have come across instances where excellent quality (still soft) having come in earlier the morning from the boats being kept for individuals

so if you can ask the shop owner if they can give you a call when they get in fresh choke you stand a better chance of buying quality fresh choke
