French rugby team fined

Ok, first off I'm happy that NZ won. It means a lot to that country that has been through a lot of kaka lately and they deserve it. The French played really well and also deserved a win, but hey - can't have 2 winners. The match was well refereed by Craig Joubert and most referees can take a page from his book.

Now the only smudge on this otherwise smooth and spectacular event is that the French face a fine for challenging the All Black haka. What the hell?? They walked up to the halfway line and stood there facing them which I think was awesome - Challenge accepted Mr Maori!

Now they face a fine for that. Seriously, are we supposed to cower in fear while the mighty All Blacks do a war dance?

fully agree - absolutely ridiculous that they get fined for that..

if the south sea islanders and NZ are allowed to do their 'war challenge' then the opposing countries should be entitled to respond in any way they see fit..

so if the IRB want to 'protect'  New Zealands custom to issue a war challenge before every game, then the IRB should equally protect Frances reaction to any war challenge - which is usually to run and hide, or surrender..

hahaha. never thought of it like that. here they come and do something completely out of character and get fined for it.

::rofl:

It's funny that they enforced that meaningless law, but not the one that says that you can't ref a knock out game if one of the teams involved has a chance of meeting your home team in the next round...

Maybe the french should have pretended to hide behind the posts, lol, that way they would have stuck to tradition when facing war time trouble, and would have won!

Rugby is besig om 'n moffie sport te word....

My understanding of the haka is 1: A war cry and 2: To chalenge/intimidate.

In my opinion whos says the other team must stand there and tolerate it.

What would happen if the other/aposing team just walked away to their end of the field while the Ablacks to their rant?

Fine is rediculaous.:fbash

Now that would actually be a sign of direspect, and that would constitute a fine.

In  most sports they do their 'thing' in the dressing room e,g..Soccer, Baseball, etc.

Why can't they do their haka to pump up the andenalian in the locker room.

Does it have to be a public display of intimidation and challenge????

I actually like the idea of issuing that challenge, but now they have a problem if someone answers....

@Adam...I've been curious about a retaliation to the haka 4 a while now.Wife and discussed it at lenght when the worldcup started.

I'm not against the display / practice thereoff, just curious as to why another team has to stand around and ogle it?

After the respect towards the anthems is done....each to his own till the game starts.

Exactly my thinking as well. If they want to stand around warming up while NZ do a war dance, then that is their choice. This fine is just ridiculous!

that fine is wrong..its a cultural thing for them but not something internationally reckognized or accepted as being part of the game of rugby.. and pulling ugly faces which on tv really does not look nice..if i wanna scare a kid ill pull a face like that.

personally glad its in the southern hemisphere so to speak also not in ozzy hands lol but ja if they gonna pull ugly faces and shout war then its war and rule book gets thrown out the window

Dit klink my die boete gaan omdat die Franse oor die middellyn beweeg het. die reels bepaal blykbaar dat jy nie oor die lyn mag beweeg nie.

Nothing happened to the Boks in the time of James Small when they accepted the challenge by meeting the All Blacks face to face.

They were right in their faces cm apart and if memory serves correct well over the half way line.

I think the Haka is awesome and unique to them, brings something different to the game and not just 2 teams standing nice and straight on the white line.

Now they want to make an issue on this

They should rather put the money and effort into training some decent referees, or spend money on re -training some referees.

I hear what you are saying, but why was a rule instated specifically at how one should face the haka. They are issuing a war challenge and their opponents are just supposed to stand there watching it?

Seems to me the All Blacks are more bark than bite. Issue a challenge and when someone accepts, stand back and toss a rule book at them?

Not sure of the facts.

1: Are the Ablacks complaining

2: Are the refs/ match officials making a thing of it.

Bunch if SISSIES in my books. Challenge the haka and get the rule book of KAKA LoL
