Went through to Franskraal on Wednesday. Thursday there was a strong Easterly, which blew till Friday Night/ Sat morning. Water went very cold in the 2 days.
Got some nice prawn from the river and some blood worm off the beach. Tried all the spots we know, as well as most of the baits.
Managed about 6 klipvis and 5 blaasoppe for the first 3 days.
Went to Die Gruis about 9pm on Sat evening. Was a strong drissle that kept falling till about 11:30pm
.
At around midnight, my outlaw (father-in-law) had a strong pul, but missed it. I went ON about 2 minutes later. A small smooth hound of about 4 kg. The action was quite nice for about 30 minutes, with 8 smooth hounds being landed (all in the 2-6kg class). Everything went quiet again.
I had a massive birds nest when my sinker came off about 10m from the rod tip. Man, it was a beaut. Had to resort to the side cutter the next morning to sort this one out.
Used my galjoen stick the rest of the evening till 2pm. Only managed 2 barbel. I would still have stuck around for a few more hours, but the outlaw got cold, and we headed home for a cold shower in the ablution facilities.
(Hot water gets turned off at 10pm!)
Water was VERY CLEAR and COLD. Must have dropped 3-4 degrees from Wednesday evening to Friday morning.
Although we did not manage any great catches, the houds did provide some fun.
