Hehe, Eckart jy meen daars nie haaie in die res van die Kaap nie!!!?

Se gou duik jy vir `n klub?

Howzit, The coast from Danger Point to Quoin point has been completely closed off for any divers, so the whole of franskraal and kleinbaai all the way up to the lighthouse is out of bounds.

However there are some decent spots on Gansbaai's side. Stanfords baai in De Kelders has some good galjoen as well as Hotties.

Furthermore Gansbaai harbour itself has a large kelp mass next to its harbour wall, on the side of ichtus fisheries, a friend of mine shot a 6 kg musselcracker there about a month ago.

We used to dive Franskraal and Kleinbaai before the coastline was closed down and we had MAAAADDD results there, but ja the police cant stop poachers so now they snake us by closing off the coast.

Hope this helped

Hi Rouen,

As far as I know you can no longer dive at Franskraal, thanks to perly poachers and a force that cannot police it, plus some inept lawmakers, but I digress...

The dive ban runs from Gansbaai harbour to the mout of the Ratel river well past Die Dam.  Which means you can only dive to the right of Gansbaai harbour.  I only dived it once, but think it is much like the rest of the coast - large chunks of empty kelp, with some fish in a few hotspots.  You will find the usual suspects in the kelp - hotties, galjoen, john borwn, butterfish.  Every now & then you might get lucky iwth a steenbras or a geelbek, but that would be the exception.  One of our party that day saw a brute galjoen, so it's worth a look.  Let us know if you go how it was.

Cheers,

Tony
