British anglers use this rig, and on rocks where it is hard to place a rod, it makes all the difference. A clever trick I have seen with these devices is to hang a bucket of water from a piece of rope connected to the tripod. This makes it very stable, and capable of dealing with the wave action and the run of a big fish.

I am sure you could put a stand like that together with 50mm plumbing pipes and fittings and some pvc weld..it is a very good idea cause you only have to carry one rod holder
