Hi Paddy - I'm sure I saw you last Saturday at Langebaan. You were fishing at 'die lyne', when we arrived. The weather was quite bad at the time (windy, lots of chop, spray etc), when we pulled anchor you had left already - we went to the other side of the island, and within an hour or so, the weather had calmed and we had great fishing - got lovely size stumpnose (some just under 2 kg), and my friend lost his first Steenbras - I couldn't get the net under the fish, and when he tried to pull the fish around from behind the motors - it got under the boat and the line chafed and broke.

Sunday we had another good day and caught our full quota as well.

Just another add-on to my previous reply on how the boat went - another thing I like about the 18ft Flamingo is the higher sides, definately drier than my previous boats.

i am jealous cause that is my dream boat, demo model went for 199k and new with a 115 4 stroke goes for 230k, and no electronics, just the basics, expect to fork out 250k for the full monty

Hi Leroyd,

I thought it was you at the line last Saturday.We waved a few times but you obviously did'nt see.

I am glad you had a good day.We started off at die dam and Spreeuwalle but the water temp had dropped from 16 at the yacht club to 11 at the dam.

After an unsuccessful stint at the elf line , we parked off behind the island.Caught lots of smaller stump but very few bloukoppe.

How do you find the fuel consumption and power with the 2 50's ?

I am thinking of replacing my 115 with either 2 x 50's or 2 x 60's but have not made my mind up yet.

My son of 16 enjoys waterskiing so I am a little concerned about being underpowered.

Hi Paddy, yes we saw you, but we didn't actually see you wave - I intended coming round to say hi, but when we got to the lines - the wind and chop was quite unpleasant so I didn't wan't to come to close and risk going over your fishing lines. Then when we pulled anchor you had already left. (we didn't see you behind the island again). I'm sure we'll bump into eachother again though, as Langebaan is our favourite spot.

As for petrol consumption - I'm not really sure, as I didn't take any detailed logs, but from memory it would go something like this:

I would fill up at Mykonos (70 litres), then run down to the 'lyne' , back up to around Mykonos again (drifting in front of donkergat etc), down to die 'lyne' again and back to the island, and then back to the yacht-club with a pleasure cruise to Preekstoel inbetween (this was done over a few days) - then I would have between 1/4 and 1/2 tank left.

Most of the above was done at around 4-4500 revs (I think it was about at 30kph)

Top end on the 2x50's was around 55kph (gps speed). For my usage - the 2x50's was ample, she planes with 5 adults etc, but if  I had to repower her again and was in the market for 2 motors - I would definately go the route of 2x60HP motors, especially if I intended waterskiing etc.

The 60's would get you on the plane quicker, plus I don't believe the price difference would be much and the petrol usage also would'nt differ that much.

 

Definately get 60's if you have a choice.
