For all you P.E. anglers out there, three of caught 5 baartman ranging in size from 3 - 5.5kgs last week-end. The fish were all caught on pink sand prawn at night when the tide was at its lowest. The spot: next to the pipe (on Cape Recife side) in Summerstrand.

From the word thats going around the bartman and cob have been caught regularly there at night for the past month.

The buddies that were with me caught a few cobs there as well a few days earlier, around the 3-4kg size.

For all you guys that know this spot well, you will agree that this is a sure indication that this winter will produce good cob and baartman at night.

in return for the above, where are the crackers coming out. i would love to get my first one this season. Got my first gallie (2.1kgs) at Huisklip recently.

Rage, if you can't get hold of pink prawns, try the mud prawns from Swartkops. i have previously caught baartman with them.

For crackers go by the Canon (Sardinia), just make sure you don't wonder into the reserve !

Pink prawns can be found in swartkops further up the river, or should I say Perseverance, if you have a prawn pump.

For quite big sand prawn try the bank in the middle of the river by the houses between slip 1 and 3, need a boat to get there, or a lekka swim.

Water was so clean in the river (close to the mouth) that the people on boats could do sight fishing for Grunters.

thanks neilg, i vow to get my cracker this winter.

Last winter season i had 3 hook-ups at Cape Recife, two at the elbow and one at gentlemans. Bait was armadillo.

Unfortunately for me they were all massive fish. One i could'nt turn on the first run (it peeled line on a tight closed drag on my sl 50). the other two broke me off about 30m out.

never fished at the canon in Sardinia. how does one get there? what is the preferred bait for the area?

If you drive down Marine Drive past Flat Rocks, past Receive, past Lookout, past Blougat, past The Anchor, all the way to the end (road splits straight and to the right - go straight). Continue right to the end and park. Now you will look down on the sea from quite high up.

Look for a preferred spot from up there.
Take only the tackle that you need, it's a HARD walk. Lots of rocks with fairly deep water.

Expect Crackers, Elf, maybe a cob and some gully sharks. I haven't fished there alot, but know it's very good fishing. Watch the sea ! It's called the wild side for a reason !

Bait, well that's your choice, armidillo should be a good choice, so will periwinkles, even a nice shad or blacktail for livebait. Don't be afraid to experiment with bait.

10 baartman last night in the space of two hours!

I fished with a few buddies from about 10pm to 2am. up to 11:30 pm there were only the occasional small bite. On the incoming tide the baartman arrived.

There were so many fish that even as we were packing up one or two guys were still getting hook-ups.

It is interesting though that two weeks ago the fish were caught on the extreme low tide.

These fish were smaller than those of two weeks ago, all were between 2.5 and 3,5 kgs and taken on pink prawns.
